    Hats on TV

Fedora comeback on TV Matt Lauer was wearing what I believe to be a Borsalino fedora this morning on the Today show. I think that was a "Borsalino" script pin on the bow when he turned on camera. He has worn a fedora in the past also but I have seen him in it already a few times this fall. He...

Jaunty, WOW, nice flange and block. No longer is that area of your home "the attic". It is now a hat maker's workshop.

favorite cars of the golden era

I work in technical services (training, fix cars over the phone) for one of the car makers. Timing belt lifespan has marched upwards a lot over the years. Age life of belts has gone up as well. BUT, 12 years is the most I have seen any manufacturer go for a timing belt life when it is a...

    Stetson "Shady Oak"

Amon Carter was the publisher/owner of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram newspaper in the 20's through his death in the 70's. This was at a time when newspaper publishers in towns of size were wealthy, powerful, and influential men. He later commissioned the Peter Brothers to make the Shady Oak hats...

Manny, That is a GREAT Dobbs! That wide ribbon and the snap of that brim look like a match made in HAT HEAVEN for your facial shape and features.

How can you tell the difference between rabbit and beaver felt?

I had a nice long visit with one of the western custom hatters some time back and he said the hat body maker has a lot of control in how the felt feels and its quality. The choice of the hair could make a 100% beaver have poor feel and a 100% rabbit feel very nice. The hair is not uniform all...

Aargh! Salad Dressing on my Johnnyphi!

I have used corn starch with great success on light hats. The last stain was automotive rear end lube which is a heavy oil, splashed onto a 100X silver belly western. I used baby powder and dusted and re-applied two times and I can't see where it was stained now.

Movies with brim snapping and crown bashing and denting?

In the past I have seen parts of movies or TV series where the characters picked up their hats and snapped the brim and shaped the crown. I would to re-watch some of them via Tivo capture or by purchasing DVD's. Can any of you give titles of movies where this was done in the movie? Thanks

    Pocketwatches

I'm from the old south and have had some visits to court and to other public hearings type affairs in gov't. In a small town there could be a backlash against anyone who dresses too flashy and looks like some city slicker trying to come to country to push the locals around. If it is a larger...

Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

Point well taken. For some reason when I read it struck me as old-men's hats and not as old, men's hats but reading it again and seeing "OLD Men's Hats" makes me lean towards the old, men's hats interpretation. I may have been swayed by a teen's description of a friend who wears a cloth...

What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

Those roll ups intrigue me. If someoen handed me a felt hat and a pie shaped tin and asked me to roll up their hat and stick in the funny box I'd probably break a sweat......just goes completely against hat nature.

    Are Hats Your Main Interest?

I wish hats were the only thing I found to blow money on! In order of expenditure: Horses and their upkeep and transport, hats, western boots. Hats and boots swap places on the list at times. I might add: "if you have cheap feet then wear cheap shoes" which could be edited, "if you have a...
