I remember seeing a thread on this, but I can't find it. But I remember it was more along the lines of the brim being flipped down and steamed maybe.

i am thinking of ironing it almost flat. it has a ribbon around it, so the ribbon might not stretch enough. I am sure the felt would.

Perhaps if the ribbon were removed, then a new one put on by a pro.

Anyone done it. I would love to have a beat up ruined homburg I could try it on, as I wouldn't want to ruin my good one, but I never wear it. Besides, many homburgs bring less on ebay, so it might be a good way to get a bargain.

anyone tried it?

I have done it on a couple of Stetson St Regis.
The edge trim will not allow it to be ironed just as you suspected. Once the edge trim is removed the felt is very cooperative to lay flat when you steam and iron it.
I have not had the edge ribbon put back on mine so they are raw edge now.
The stiching holes show but not too obvious. There is a glue that they used for the edge ribbon and it scraped off easily but that would be covered by having a new edge ribbon sewn back on.
I am out of town and can't take any photos at this time to let you see how they turned out.
