I agree 100%. But their fees are getting high enough that it makes it hard to realize a profit, or in my case, minimize your loss.
It's fine for a buyer. But I will never sell on the Bay again for this reason. The item will either remain in my possession, or it will be donated.
I have had it with the Bay. Just sold a new G-1, retails at $510, for $179. I included free shipping ($26).
Ebay now charges me $17.90, plus about $9 in listing fees. PayPal hit me for $5.50.
Total fees = $32.40, with shipping it's $58.40.
My net was $120. One fourth of what the jacket cost...
If you have not done so, you may want to visit a well respected men's clothing store and get a good measurement.
Understand that U.S. Wings is a retailer, not a manufacturer. I believe that their USA made jackets actually come from Schott. I have their G-1, and it is superb from the standpoint...
It turns out to be a double edge sword...I used to walk into my closet, grab a jacket and throw it on. Not thinking about back length, sleeve length (tunneling), etc. I have now become hyper-critical of fit. It has turned into an obsession, almost a disease. Is there help for this dilemma?
While some may have found dealing with Shaul a bit of a challenge, he was extremely helpful in my case. Answering every email in a timely manner, and always with good advice for my purchase.
I would certainly buy from him again, and recommend the company to anyone looking for a quality jacket...
The jacket was purchased as a trial fit, with the thought of having them make a custom G-1 for me. I could go with 1" less thru the shoulders, but overall it fits spot on. Think I'll keep it!
It is as well made as any other jacket in my small collection.
I think the cuffs / waistband are from a blend. I actually prefer this as the pure wool I have on others pils really fast. The other thing is this G-1 has the side entry pockets. This is an optional feature. You can get the jacket without these if that's your wish. Yes, the color is really soft...
U.S. Authentic G-1, size 40R.
Shaul was spot on in his recommendation for a size 40 for a "slim" fit. The jacket is perfect in every way. Wearing a sweater underneath is certainly not an option, so will use my G&B or Wings coats in those situations.
I cringe when spending north of $500 on...
Pictures to come tomorrow, as I want natural daylight. Here is the skinny on the G-1...best fit for me of any of my jackets. Shaul was spot on in his suggestion that a 40 would be a "slim" fit, and would be correct for me.
Measurements:
P - P: 22 1/2
Shoulder: 19 3/4
Back: 25
Sleeve: 25
Bottom...
Speaking of 12 O'Clock High, I watched a re-run of the TV series this morning. Could not help but notice how short the body of the jackets were. Looks like the waistband hit right at the beltline. Maybe this is the correct fit?
One time when placing an order, I simply ordered two A-2's, a 40 and a 38. Tried them both on. Kept the one that fit. The shipping to me was free anyway, and then returned the other jacket.
Here is a new, made in the USA, A-2 for $217. And that includes free shipping. I bought one a couple years ago to make into a "patch" jacket. Made by Excelled. Available at www.leathercoatsetc.com
This is a nice jacket. But had to order a 38, as they run just a tad large.
Leather is very good in protection during a flash fire. So, wearing my A-2 (during warmer wx) does not concern me. But...the cuffs and waistband might burn easily.
I also have good leather gloves.
The CWU-45/P is insulated quite well. Combined with the nomex flightsuit, and underwear, I should...
I went back and took a good close look at these two. The sheen on both of them is almost identical. The material is different, and the color is not quite a match, so that may be throwing us off at first glance.
The Cockpit MA-1 is a more comfortable jacket, for sure.
I only need a few seconds...
