My First Optimo
New old Optimo in Skyline blue just scored off of ebay for less than half of what they cost new. The darn thing is pristine - doesn't look like it was ever worn. Forgive me if you've seen this posted in another topic.
Since I can't have the oxblood hat, I'll have to settle for this Optimo skyline blue fedora I just got off ebay for less than half what it would have cost me new. Optimo makes a nice hat - I'm not happy with the bash - but quality is first-rate.
I got the suit and it's beautiful. In terms of weight the jacket feels like an overcoat - I don't know what a 1930's jacket feels like but if it was heavier than this then they must have taken them off immediately once they got inside. I got hot in 30 seconds in air conditioning.
You'll...
For modern-style, I like the older Kimber "Classic II" - don't let the name fool you because this one has all the modern upgrades. For classic-style, and if I didn't want to spend the extra money on a pre-70 series Colt, I like the Norinco. Before anyone says don't buy Chinese because then you...
Rudy,
I appreciate the reply! I am just learning what matches and what doesn't and how far you can push "the rules." The tie was more of an attempt to wear the loudest tie that I owned rather than match anything. Also, I am ashamed to say that I just discovered pocket squares so I need a...
The second of the series - "After the Thin Man" - can be watched on your computer immediately at Netflix under their "watch instantly" feature. You must have an account with them.
I agree with the rest - the first one first - terrific movies. William Powell and Myrna Loy had so much chemistry together that people thought they were married in real life.
John, that sounds like it could be right but I'd love to check my information. I can't find my Savage books.
In the meantime, here's my Savage 1915 with some 1930s accoutrements - note the grip safety and the lack of an exposed hammer.
I said barely. And people seemed to like them on me. However, I like the straightening out by heating idea. We shall see.
As far as the glasses that you displayed from S. Dakota - I don't know what era they are from but they are distinctly beautiful!
I wear a 7 1/2 inch hat and the only person I know with a larger head is my son at 7 5/8 inch. If I can pull this off, even if barely, then almost anybody can.
The funny thing is that while management gave me some looks, the rest of my co-workers liked it. In fact, when I came in yesterday in my normal casual garb - I had people popping their heads in my cube and then complaining about how I wasn't dressed up like yesterday.
So, I've decided to...
Ebay is where I got them - the seller is in Germany but it was a no-sweat transaction and they arrived fairly quickly. These are a little more fragile than modern sunglasses and are a little small for my head. Apparently, people didn't have such a large melon in the 1930s.
The Savage pocket pistols are another group that just aren't that well known, even by gun afficianados. And yet, I think they outsold the Colt pocket pistols during the years they were competitors - I'll try to find that info. I've got a 1915 (only made one year) in 32 acp that's a joy to...
