I really hate cell phone, but have to use it all day long - and answer the calls.
As a watch, a prefer a pocket watch. Never went well with wristwatch.
I suppose is USA happened the same here in late 60s and 70s. There was a movement about desconstructing and reviewing the "heroes" of other times. Looks to me Edison memoir suffered from this. (here the most attacked were military from the Paraguay War in 1860s, composer Carlos Gomes, and so on...
Interesting as Edison was a kind of hero those days. Ever here, so distant from NY, there were streets, buildings, shops called "Thomas Edison". And greatest recording company here in 10s was "Casa Edison".
But the meomry about him looks pale after the 50s... Nowadays I only read about him...
The trouble about Sinatra is that folks give so much attention about his private life. Wives, mafia, et alli. OK, he probably didn't know very well about marriage and no-musicians friends like Sam Giancana - but whats the matter? He was great to find great arrangers as Billy May and Nelson...
Loved it - and laughed a lot!
About Jolson, he is great. A really preffer him with slower tunes, exibithing his wonderful bass. And his version of "Brother can spare a dime?" is even better than Bing's.
Memoirs by Thor Heyerdahl.
That's a man who I admire a lot - as a writer, adventurer and cientist. Just loved two other book by him, Aku-aku and the Kon-tiki Expedition.
"Larry Clinton in Hi-Fi", a LP from 50s. Usually these "newly recorded" aren't so good as the original recordings, but Clinton orch (probably a studio one) was really swinging. And the "new ortophonic sound" is really good in this record! (and I'm not a fan about hi-fi by RCA).
Wonderful! Are you still using it?
This car (or a model very similar) was the typical Police Dept car here in São Paulo in 40s, for police officials. Usually white with the top in black.
This remember me about a Pilot radio/turntable I got several years ago. The cartridge used steel needles, but the rubber was hard as a stone. The cartridge was a low quality, so the two replacement pieces (the coil was damaged) I found were too with hard rubber. Never discovered a way to change...
Those old Focomat Ic is just a dream! The most fabulous enlarger I played around. I ever prefer it than the V35. I'm still looking around for one... Hard to find.
Mine is a Omega B22XL, probably from 1961 or 1962. This have the option to enlarge 120 films too. When I got it I was just in love...
I have two appeals in my front. From different procedings, different prosecuters and... Just the same text. Two extense, boring and exacly the same 59-page appeals.
This is usual in your countries too? And you think this imoral? Can the enourmous amount of work led to this industrial line in...
Certainly!!!
Those little cameras from 30s and 40s are just marvelous. I develop in my home (my bathroom, after my wife prohibited me to use the kitchen). I like to use ever the old way with the baths, using raw chemicals and trying the formulas.
My main interest is in 35mm photography...
The commercial is great. I just don't know if the car is good or not. My dad had a Dodge Dart in 1973, and it was just marvelous. But this was long, long time ago.
Vitanola,
I never went to such degree of refinement about having several different needles to play records in a 60s or 50s player. And, in fact, I never saw different saphire needles for 78s to choose. I just find the needle by the cartridge model.
With the few really rare 78s I own I...
Of course the leisure time when at university can help a lot about socializing and getting friends! Agree with you.
My situation at work is somewhat different. Of course as a lawyer I MUST socialize with my clients, almost as much i need to show effective results. But very few I would like...
I think Beatles were significant - and this have nothing about "liking or not liking" their music. (Lombardo liked all. Basie liked a few, as Artie Shaw. Stan Kenton called them "kindergrden music". Different opinions of guys who knew a lot about music...)
They were significant because is the...
I understand he is talking about the efective weight ("playing weight"), quoting his own book from 1929, "Modern Gramophones". And comparing with the situation when the actual book was printed, 1957: "nowadays, the more usual playing wheight is 7 to 10 grm..." He puts in this big weight the...
