Very cool! It seems like the 55J14 series of jackets are more rare than the M-422a's. We just don't see that many around anymore. Good luck with her and congrats!
My oh my. That is one GOOD looking jacket! Love that mouton!!! Look forward to progress pics as they become available. Enjoy the creative process my friend!
Just added a vintage 1940's Pan Am airlines service pin to the leather tab (tooled leather with Japanese kanji that has my wedding anniversary date) onto my new M-422a.
Jacket looks GREAT! Steve is a real gentleman who makes the whole custom-jacket process fun, interesting and successful. I love the W&G m-422a he made for me and I wear it every day. Congrats on your new jacket; wear it in good health!
DD, try a pair of LL Bean flannel-lined jeans. They sit on your natural waistline (they are not low-cut hipster pants) and are toasty warm! Also, if you have thin legs, that extra layer of flannel material makes the jeans look a bit more robust then regular jeans.
Hi Kurt,
Here's a much better fit pic without the sweater underneath. I've also updated my W&G post with some pics as well.
Steve had this French goatskin in 2 shades, russet (which I opted for) and a seal brown (which he dyes himself). He said this goat is used by John (Goodwear leather).
I've got the wingspan of an albatross so finding a good, comfortable fit is always a challenge. Steve nailed the measurements I gave him and produced a really great jacket that fits me just the way I like. The jacket is soft and super grainy and the pebbled goatskin hide is really popping with...
Wearing just the new jacket (without that sweater underneath) shows the fit much better. Love the drape and the overall dimensions were exactly what I intended when placing the custom order.
Great idea for a thread. Steve is a real gentleman to work with and the jacket he did for me was a home run! I think you'll be very happy with his work.
^Thanks Charles! It's a Merchant Marine officer crusher cap with WWII badge, chinstrap and brass side buttons (all beautifully weathered with verdigris and patina). The other captains at my job wear the ubiquitous baseball-style cap while I opted for a more traditional look.
* I totally agree...
The jacket has a slightly longer body than my G-1 jackets (as per WWII M-422a's) and is super comfortable to wear (I've been wearing it for 8 hours at a time while at work).
Here are some quick fit pics taken at work on a cold, blustery afternoon (wearing a medium weight sweater over a shirt). The sunlight really brings out a truer color of the russet goat.
The 1950's G-1 jackets (55-J-14 or 7823 AER) are great investments! They have awesome thick goatskin leather and should be relatively easy to find at reasonable prices. If the jacket has a decent (and real) mouton collar and the original label that'd be a real plus. Good luck.
