I just found a similar jacket but with fur collar (and a cheap civilian talon zip). It's got some beautiful, grainy goatskin and a similar Abercrombie and Fitch civilian label. I'm really curious about these A&F civilianized G-1/AN-J-3 jackets. One other oddity is the mil-spec (?) brown cuffs...
Maybe it's the chrome tanning on the LW horsehide but I gotta say, my LW A-2 is as waterproof as gore-tex. I've worn mine in the worst downpours imaginable; that jacket does repel the rain!
On August 29, I received an e-mail from LD&CO stating that my order (# 1274) is "awaiting shipment". Nothing else since then. Ordered in Nov. 2014 so it's been a while.
Every W&G jacket I've owned were all good quality. While not 100% accurate, their repro military jackets were well constructed and looked close enough to the originals for the casual observer to recognize it as an A-2 or G-1 or B-3. Not everyone can afford or wants to spend 1-2K for a...
I have the khaki BR N-1 in a size XXL and I usually wear a size 46 (Long) in an A-2 and the XXL fits me perfect with a bit of room for a sweater. GREAT jacket!
During WWII, W+G wrote "Willis and Geiger"' on all their nomenclature labels. Much later, from the 1970's til their demise in the late 1990's (?), they wrote their name with an ampersand (Willis & Geiger).
During the war they made Navy M-422/M-422a jackets as well as the sheepskin M-444 and...
Some of the Orvis leather bomber jackets are made by The Cockpit, although I'm not 100% sure about this distressed model. It's rather similar to The Cockpit's vintage, washed goatskin G-1 but it's got a lot more of the distressing effect.
I agree with HD; a bit too much color loss for my taste. Reminds me of those 1980's Avirex bomber jackets that were made to rapidly distress in short order.[huh]
Very nice jacket. Scrolling thru the photobucket pics I saw a LW suburban with fur collar and lined with sheepskin. Do you still have it and if so, how does it compare to the new Aero?
Another great book on the subject of Japan's imperialism and military aggression is James Bradley's "The Imperial Cruise". The book makes a compelling case that much of Japan's change in politics and strategy apparently traced back to the presidency of Theodore Roosevelt, long before FDR and WWII.
I think later on in the series (as the Fonz jacket was getting more popular) they started to make "new vintage" jackets for the show (this photo is not the same jacket previously posted; obviously much newer). From what I read (can't remember where), the early seasons had Winkler wearing a true...
If only the main character needs to be wearing a leather jacket (no need for stuntmen or doubles to be similarly outfitted), then producers and wardrobe people can opt for one-off vintage leather jackets/clothes for the main character. Henry Winkler wore a vintage jacket through most of "Happy...
