While I have sympathy for what you are saying all can be said for ANYTHING being sold anymore and especially anything antique or collectable.
Many, Many of the hats you describe are NOT going to be effected by what we say or do here. Too many are sold by people who don't know and in the case...
Well, out checking a couple of shops today.......and I find this..
This is a Model 1902 enlisted cap with non-commissioned officer buttons. I hat to laugh as the buttons were installed upside down! :) I chose to just leave them as found....see if anybody else but me even notices.....
