Well, I thought about it......the last time I reached out over something that actually mattered, I lost over 2 hours of my time just getting through their system...which I am sure does not even cover this situation.
I am not really that mad....and I look at it a a savings on the wallet for...
Yes I was surprised too....the auction said I was winning...(now I am whining:oops::rolleyes:)......... then.... I lost.....when I looked at the bid history, the winning bid showed a time that was clearly AFTER the action close (albeit something like 5 seconds).
As I said I never have had that...
Ok....I have never had this happen on Ebay before.........ever.....
Often I get outbid and sometimes the bid occurs right on the minute (second) of the auctions close.
But last night I was outbid AFTER the auction closed (granted by a few seconds, literally...but). I have NEVER been outbid...
The styles were differant, much more as the hat Jack talks about. Here is a page from a 1873 catalog. I have many more referances, but this has good examples of what to look for prior to the 1890's........
Woke up, fell out of bed

Left: is a 1950's Champ...VERY nice felt....summer weight...
Happens to all of us......when I first looked at the post I read the 1983 as 1938 and was thinking, no way that hat is from 1938......then I looked again.....
I too have also been fooled by style numbers that need a second look (and sometimes third).;)
ALL the same seller. Let us know when you see SOLD at those prices........;)
I am guessing a mistake in the listings (as Brent suggested) looking at this seller sales history. NOTHING this seller has had, has sold anywhere near those prices........as you say...bad day in the clerical...
This is a really clean Sterling AEUF "flip flop" toaster which was patented in 1935, a little late to the game for this type it has NO switch (When plugged in, it is always on, so you can toast/warm your hands too I guess....).
I really like the full Art Deco look of this one....the...
