Harry Truman had no middle name. The S was added for some reason when he entered politics. That may explain the confusion concerning the period or lack thereof. He was related to both the Flannery & Shepherd families (both rode under Quantrill) & was named after one of the younger Flannery’s.

Kind of fun, but a lot of work too. I’ve averaged just under one hat sale a day this year, and that’s just on eBay. I don’t know that I want to keep up that pace.

There are nine more in 6 ¾, six in 6 ⅞, and five in 7 ⅛ that I left for someone else. I just wish it was a horde of pre-war hats I stumbled on.

Well, out checking a couple of shops today.......and I find this..

This is a Model 1902 enlisted cap with non-commissioned officer buttons. I hat to laugh as the buttons were installed upside down! I chose to just leave them as found....see if anybody else but me even notices.....

The cap is absolutely pristine. Ironically it had a tag marking the cap as a possible Civil War cap. (Of course I knew it was not, and the price was not even close to CW price...so came home with me.)

This cap was made real close to the 1902 date as they made some modifications by 1909-10. Also the NCO buttons (actually a pattern dating back to the Civil War) were well out of use by then too.

Not everyday one runs across good military items outside of a actual collectors show.......
