You might try something like this - my custom Wayfarers with mouton collars, shearling body lining and wool-backed rayon sleeve lining - these are badalassi but goat might be a better option if you have wet winters? Best to size up from your normal tagged size to accommodate the thicker lining...
Take a look at Lewis Leathers in their vegtan sheep options - for me they make the best fitting jackets of all (even better than Thedi, which are also excellent patterns, fitwise) and that hide is also not only really beautiful leather but it drapes and shapes to the wearer better than any...
I would recommend catch and release too for this one, especially since it is more than one dimension that needs fixing so it could be v costly and tailoring might not work in the end anyway - you would probably save money and reduce risk by ordering a custom jacket from scratch tbh if you really...
More that I think the topcoat on the standard leather is more weather (and rain) resistent tbh - I suspect the vegtan could be a bit more of a sponge than the standard leathers, but I may be wrong. The sheep is also vegtan of course, but again I think the standard leather might be tougher for...
I much prefer both the vegecow and sheep but have not seen an aged version to compare for the vegehorse. If you want a jacket for riding I would look at their standard HH rather than the vegtan version tbh….
Oops! I misread the question - I have three of the same basic model in different hides above, as posted (erroneously!) in response above. But to answer it correctly this time - I also have four jackets in badalassi..two black, one russet, one tobacco - see attached this time - sorry for the error!
I have three of the J106/Ridley/slimfit MC jackets in different hides and custom variant of pockets, cuffs etc - these are in black badalassi, blue vic and brown roughout goat - they are all nice jackets but the badalassi is the clear standout winner, followed by the roughout, then the vic...
I would not say it is an unnatural level of shine at all, and certainly not like pvc or patent finishes. Rather it is a deep gloss with real depth to it - I think photos often artificially amplify the shininess, and that is certainly what happens every time I try to capture it On my phone...
The buttoned option looks really great! I am now tempted to go down that route too…..perhaps now is the time to try the new chestnut badalassi on that style……!
Goatskin would be a MUCH better option than CXL - it is v flexible but tough as nails - it might not be as period accurate as the HH options, but in functional terms I would imagine it could be an even better match for this type of jacket and the underling shearling than the standard options due...
I would advise v strongly against CXL on an ANJ4 - it is totally the wrong type of leather for this jacket and works against its functionally. Aero's CXL is very heavy and it it is also thick and stiff due to the waxes it is stuffed with - this means you have a stiff leather overlain on a much...
Here is a shot of the graining on my black badalssi Wayfarer, about 1 year in….this is a pretty substantial hide and has broken in really nicely over time.
I have had no problem at all with the Lewis sheep - its pretty substantial and really a great hide - perfect for streetwear. I have two jackets in it, and my wife has a third - that and badalassi are among my favourite hides - I much prefer them to shinki, vicenza, CXL etc. The others that I...
No - its not teacore - dyed through…..and a really lovely proper deep black too. In my blue heaven Lewis Leathers would also offer badalassi for their jackets and Aero would offer the Lewis vegtan sheep for theirs…..
This has triggered an old itch I have still not scratched for another black badalassi jacket - I have just emailed Holly to see if they will do a Type 3 in it…..
I have an Aero Coastal Command on order, largely because of family history, but I already have an Eastman ANJ4 - in my view the ANJ4 is the perfected heavy duty flight jacket - the shortcomings of both the B3 and Irvin are not found in the ANJ4 and it is a fantastically designed jacket. It also...
