That's great PrettySquareGal! If only the smokers out there could see what that habit's done to my mother . . . the pain, the sickness and the misery . . . I don't understand how the tobacco companies haven't been indicted out of business for making their addictive chemical-laden toxic products.

But you're free of that, congratulations!

Thanks, Benny. I'm sorry about your mother. I have family that still smokes, too.

Behind the 8 ball,..
From one former smoker to another.

:eusa_clap
I quit just over ten years ago. :) Going on eleven.
It was rough for the first couple of months, but after that I only had an urge to smoke once in a while. After about 2 years or so, even those fleeting cravings disappeared. Can't stand to be around it now,...:(

I'm so happy that you (all) quit

First my Aunt died of Second Hand Smoke (She never smoked).
And than my Uncle died of his smoking habit, after years of toting around an oxygen tank.

They were some of my favorite relatives and I miss them both very much. :(

My mother is 65 and has smoked since she was 13 or 14. She says she started smoking because she had a toothache--the cure was to hold smoke in your mouth, so my grandmother would give her puffs to hold. :(

Congrats! Quitting smoking was the best move I ever made (after about 12 years of smoking).
I've been a quitter for almost 7 years now.

Congrats PSG, and to the other quitters!

I had been a smoker for 13 years, I started about 15 or 16. Strange thing was, I was also an all-star basketball player. I would walk off the court and light a Marlboro Red :eusa_doh:

My husband and I quit a little over a year ago. The motivating factor was the goal to save the cigarette money for a trip to Germany at Christmas last year. Things didn't work out to get us to Germany, but at least we quit. Someday I will take my husband and baby to see the city I called home as a kid, we have the rest of our lives :)

Good for you! I've never been a smoker - well, the very occasional cigar aside. Never dared touch a cigarette - not so much for health reasons (I know, I know - but I do tend to treat my own health with utter contempt a lot of the time), moreso the sheer expense, and i hate the idea of being hooked on anything. I've known a lot of folks who are or were smokers, though, and I have some small inkling of an idea of how hard it is for them to kick. An exgirlfriend of mine was a smoker - she went through periods of trying to quit, but it never quite worked for her. I hope she managed it in the end. Always regretted losing touch completely there.

Keep going! :eusa_clap

Congrats. I've just gone past my 4 year anniversary of quitting (I smoked quite heavily - cigarettes, weed etc - from 16-24). Never once had a craving, neither. I was finally induced to quit when i realised what it had done to my squash game. My lungs were knackered after 2 games. Not good.

Weird how these things turn out. A friend of mine who keeps trying to quit after just 2 years of light smoking can't stop the cravings.
