The guy on the right is actually John Mclernand. Grant relieved him of command during the siege of Vicksburg for unauthorized communications with the press.
Leaking goes way back!

Perry, can you date the pic then? I'm sure the date is known; I just don't know it.The guy on the right is actually John Mclernand. Grant relieved him of command during the siege of Vicksburg for unauthorized communications with the press.

According to what I could find there is no date listed, but it is identified as Antietam, which was Sept 1862. I only looked it up because I thought that fellow didn't look like the pics I had seen of McLelland.Perry, can you date the pic then? I'm sure the date is known; I just don't know it.
I looked it up & you are right. It is McClernand. But still early in the war when McClellan would have been Commander. You said it! Had the pleasure of assigning myself and a subordinate to be his escort and liaison during a summer festival where he was the guest of honor and the recipient of an annual award our city handed out. Took us about 10 minutes to figure out that the only people to protect were those that might be offended by his COLORFUL language and demeanor. We spent a lot of time standing between him and the children that parents kept bringing forth to meet him. One of the days of my career that I will never forget. I’ve written more about it in the famous people I’ve encountered thread.
I only have autographs of two people I met during my LE career. Chuck Yeager and Art Linkletter.
Fruno says the darndest things!Plus, Art Linkletter is cool, too.
I loved Art Linklater and especially that show. A product of a much simpler more innocent timeFruno says the darndest things!
Late September early October 1862.......................John Alexander McClernand was from Illinois, a prominent local Democrat (Sangamon County) trying to look like he and Lincoln were great friends (and they kind of were)....Had a long career in politics serving many years as a Judge out of Springfield.Perry, can you date the pic then? I'm sure the date is known; I just don't know it.
Cool pic Bob.^^^^^ Cool pic Brent. I hope you do much better as well.
Sheriff of Greene County, Missouri in the early 1900's -- Erastus Jasper Garner. The hat almost looks like it could use a couple of spacers.

Didn't know that. I know more with the Greene & Christian county Sheriff's offices than I do SPD.Thanks Jack. Always scary to hear this news as our ex-daughter-in-law is an officer with the Springfield PD.
