Vanzina Verde Selva - Borsalino styled

The Cappellificio Vanzina of Pavia ( Milan ) was purchase by Borsalino after the Second World War to enter the market of average price hats.
It was a marketing strategy when Usuelli, third menager Borsalino family, brought on the top again l’Antica Casa di Alessandria. He needed a hat factory that could increase the numbers of production to the average price of a hat.
History has proved him right for a short time, then the hat is gone down in Italy and now the old factory has become part of the residence University of Pavia ( one of the oldest Italian universities).

First Vanzina (Styled by Borsalino) made in green fur felt

Size is 59 cm. (7 3/8 US) Crown is 12 cm (4.75 inches) raw brim is 5 cm. (2 inches)

The fur felt is medium soft, pliable and in a special "Velour" finish

Verywell finished as the Borsalino of that age.
Linen in deep Brown with an excellent sweatband

Vanzina have its own mark and the Borsalino imprimatur

It was the Borsalino way to have more chances on the average price market.
The wonderful green (whit shades od yellow) felt is completed with a ribbon in satin 4 cm (1.5 inches) with an elegant bow

The fur felt in a velour green/yellow has a peachy touch.

Vanzina is not so easy to find on the vintage italian market, is quite rare

Beautiful example, Daniele. I have an older Vanzina... perhaps pre-war but definitely pre-Borsalino. It is beautifully made with a tall crown and scooped brim in the alpine influence. Thanks for sharing this.

Vanzina is our house brand now for the lower priced Borsalinos. I have some going back to the 1960's but with stingy brims. The quality is remarkable .

And so for yours delight and mine is the second and last Vanzina. NOS like the other
I hope to display others in the near future, although I think it will be difficult.....

Size 59 (US 7 3/8), overwelted brims are 5 cm. (2 inches) crown at 12.5 cm. (5 inches)

Thin felt dark green bottle color, very malleable and easy to shape.

Lined in white with green leather sweatband.

It is, like Its brother, styled by Borsalino.

The hat is finished very well and has a perfect fit.

The Vanzina is completed with a ribbon, little darker in satin 4 cm (1.5 inches) with an elegant bow

Vanzina, Borsalino era, are really remarkable.

They are all new hats, well preserved in a shop of the South Italy.
Third Vanzina (Styled by Borsalino) made in grey fur felt

Size is 58 cm. (7 1/4 US) Crown is 11 cm (4.33 inches) raw brim is 4.5 cm. (1.77 inches)

The fur felt is medium soft, pliable and in a special "Velour" finish

These velour Vanzinas have special colors. This grey (whit shades of pale blue) felt is completed with a ribbon in satin 4 cm (1.5 inches) with an elegant bow
Finished as the Borsalino of that age.
Linen in deep Carminio with an excellent sweatband

It was the "cheap" Borsalino

For the lovers of Italian hatters...another Vanzina
Fourth Vanzina (Styled by Borsalino) made in brown fur felt

Size is 58 cm. (7 1/4 US) Crown is 10.5 cm (4.13 inches) overwelted brim is 4.5 cm. (1.77 inches)

The fur felt is medium soft, pliable and in a plain "shaved" felt

Very well finished as the Borsalino of the same years (around 60's)
Linen in deep violet and white with a good sweatband

As the eldest brothers it is new from a closed hat shop of South Italy
Very EU styled, it has the shape and proportions very fashionable some years ago

In praise of Italian hatters...another new Vanzina. Last before the summer.....

Fifth Vanzina (Styled by Borsalino) made in "caramel" fur felt velour finishing

Size is 58 cm. (7 1/4 US) Crown is 11 cm (4.33 inches) raw brim is 5 cm. (2 inches)
The fur felt is very pliable and soft, velour felt.

Very well finished as the Borsalino of the same years (around 60's)
Excellent sweatband with a linen in deep violet. Ribbon is 4 cm. (1.5 inches) in deep caramel

It came from a closed hat shop of South Italy and I hope to come closer to some others in the future

The color called "China" is one of the more intriguing I found in these Vanzianas made in velour.

New life for the Italian hatters. First during fall

Tesi made in "heather" fur felt finishing in short hair

Size is 58 cm. (7 1/4 US) Crown is 10 cm (4.00 inches) raw brim is 6 cm. (2,36 inches)

The fur felt is medium pliable and softness is average.

Well finished as most medium end Italian hats

Green sweatband in grosgrain with a linen in deep green. Ribbon is 2 cm. (0.78 inches) in green-brown

The shops of South Italy are a interesting sources of vintage hats
It is a very classical Italian hat for "fields", a nice cross over
