The Olympic rings or platinum sombrero applies to a player striking out five times in a game.
I always thought that The Olympic symbol represents the union of the five continents and the meeting of athletes throughout the world at the Olympic Games.
Looking it up, I found:
"These five rings represent the five parts of the world won over to the cause of Olympism and ready to accept its fecund rivalries. What is more, the six colours, thus combined, reproduce those of all nations without exception."
Pierre de CoubertinFounder of the Olympic Movement

There's a very popular hat that fascinates me, that is the ball cap. A search came up with this website:
https://spacecoastdaily.com/2022/08/7-interesting-facts-to-know-about-the-history-of-baseball-caps/
It lists and qualifies seven interesting facts about the cap, yet it leaves out the most obvious one.
Which is: "Why is it worn back to front by so many?"

A chef's hat has 100 folds to represent 100 ways to cook an egg.

Chefs traditionally wear big, white hats which are known as toques. They have 100 folds in them. The folds represent 100 different ways that you can cook an egg. I can think of boiled, scrambled, poached & fried, that's about it.

This is apocryphal with no evidence of it being anything but a recently hatched canard.

You're probably right, but I didn't get the 100 egg idea from Wiki, I came across it at the prestigious Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts.
I had heard it before as well, not sure when or where it started, but certainly well after Escoffier's death, and thus much later than the time of Carême, the inventor of the Toque.
