That’s Shawn’s trucker pattern
While it’s slim fit it is also straight torso
I nipped a few inches off the waist in custom measurements to get some taper.
Which I think with your shape you also need more taper.
You can send it back for alteration if shipping cost works out. Better to have a well fitted jacket you would wear than one that just collect dust in the closet.
The gasoline smell description is bang on. Petroleum by product aka paint (I think) off gas. A week out in the sun will do. More if cloudy. Shawn really need to hang these out before shipping them. I’ve read somewhere another jacket manufacturer set his out on the roof to tan before shipping to the customers. It’s not chemical, it’s the same smell as new synthetic yoga pants. The more elastane the stronger the smell.
I will get in touch with Shawn and see if there is extra expense for alterations. It seems that what my son said is right. "for us, we gotta go bespoke or not go at all".

I asked Shawn about RAF Coastal Command Irvins. He isn't ready to start making them yet.

Great observation. I’ve noticed this same thing but couldn’t put my finger on it!! Why the creases are this way: // instead of this way: = across the arms.
View attachment 414369 View attachment 414370
Do you think the center sleeve seam is the reason?
I think if your sleeve is narrow or have a grippy liner that twist the leather jacket sleeve along as you rotate the palm of your hand facing up and down, it will produce zigzag honeycomb like pattern on the forearm and biceps and near the armpit. on contrary if your liner is slippery satin or you have wider sleeve, you can twist around your arm without affecting the jacket sleeve, so it will only crease from lifting your arm up and down and not affected by twisting movements so it has more horizontal creases and less or no crisscross honeycomb creases.

Dang man I think that looks pretty damn good!!! I’d say you need to adjust the neck hole for sure. Just for comforts sake, and so it’s not jabbing at your throat. Forearms could be a bit wider, and cuffs too. Otherwise, looks pretty ace to me.
+1

This bulge in the back comes, in my opinion, because the jacket is too long in the back. Because the waistband is tight, it rests on the hips and pushes the material up. To fix this, the easiest way will be to make the jacket a little shorter in the back. Or then tailor it so that the material follows the natural shape of the back. But that is certainly complicated for us laymen to specify correctly.

Or make the waistband wide enough so that it can't rest on the back.

Thank you, that is exactly what is happening, sitting on my lower back, I’m carrying a little extra weight so I have some love handles back there, so those are two great options to widen the waist a little bit so it falls naturally or do it a little shorter, sometimes I feel on a shorter and wider guys at 5 foot 9” that it kind of makes you look fat if the hem is too short. But I do like the look so it’s worth a shot

The Windward is from the late 30s early 40s and very detailed. Yes, the lining is a necessary part of this jacket. This jacket has 2 labels, I would expect it costly to reproduce these labels, but it would be nice.

I did visit the 5Star website. Wow! they have quite a large offering of jackets and none expensive.

I could provide them with quite a few jackets; motorcycle and civilian. The Windward just happens to be one I can't wear.

Interesting they have not done a Iconic Sears Hercules from the 30s like every body else. I do have one, but not my favorite jacket.

Their half-belt offering could be a bit more interesting, like this Taubers

I have never handled one of their jackets, just seen pictures.

Would folks be interested in jackets like these? I don't need repro of these because they fit me.

Could be an interesting project. How do you contact Shawn?

Loving my jacket... I need another 5* already haha. The collar is a bit rowdy on this still though

Are you thinking of Mr Freedom? I know for some of their undyed campus jackets they pre tan them in the sun, though the reason for this is just to age them a bit and warm up the colour.
Not MrF but Aero? They use to distress the LVC leather before delivering them I believe, I don't quite remember.
5Star jackets could be oderless upon delivery if they spent some time just hanging before being packaged.
Paint will smell like gas, but only when it's fresh.

Leathertog front, Trojan back. Most importantly, get the sleeves roll at the correct angle. (see the sleeve seam position) View attachment 414349 View attachment 414350 View attachment 414351
Can't wait to see this one. I'm also curious of how the sleeve roll differently too. The straighter (less wierd curve) the better.

I am still skeptical of this. I hung Five Star goat for a month plus with no change in stink.

EDIT: Did this two different times, to be clear. Same result.

I have also had this smell more or less strong with each jacket. Fortunately, it has been gone after a few days. I mean that the smell was much stronger two years ago than now.
Having the smell of an Aero/LL/Field when unpacking would definitely be a plus.

Please ignore this post of mine. No useful info here. Sorry. See later post for actual helpful info.

I'm not trying to be rude, just my observation.
You guys have the body builder type of body, there is no way you can get the slim fit guy look. It's like asking Arnold or Rock to look like Deadpool. Not possible.
I'd suggest to go for the tailored look for the body builder body. The "muscle fit" only actually works for guys with less muscles.

Then something is not right.
Off gas is what it is. Off gas. I am no expert in the actual off gas time period, but months seems long. For my clothes, 5Star has the same petrol smell as one of my new Vanson (one outta three) and most of my Gap jeans in dark colors. But they all levelled off within a month. Shortest a week, longest a month. Sun does help. Cloudy weather lengthen the process.
But you're experiencing something very different. Best to bring it up with Shawn. If he doesn't know about it nothing will get improved, and you would also be mad at him still, without him even knowing anything.

I will figure out their oil formula~! Eucalyptus
Squeaky but smells so much better.

Yeah, the off gas synthetic smell, which some pillows and things will have as well, is quite different.

Shawn definitely knows about it because quite a few people on VLJ experienced it and complained.

I am not mad at him; it is what it is. If the other leathers don't have this problem, I'm delighted. I don't mind the off-gassing smell, really, but this was just unpleasant.

Yes. Tailored is the way to go for oddball bodies like mine. Definitely not a bodybuilder. I want to believe that I'm more athletic than that...

Slim fit or any kind of fit, is still fit, which means that when measurements are provided and there is a ratio between shoulder width, chest circumference and waist circumference, those ratios should be followed and applied to the garment ± any bias due to construction. I am no tailor or leathersmith, but just saying that that's why we provide dimensions and don't buy something that has a lot of XXXs and hope for the best.
