Borsalino/Barbisio

Hello new to site, could use a little helpful info, I've decided to get a fedora for more formal occasions, have a strong lean to Italian suits, narrowed it down to vintage Borsalino or Barbisio, specific question is in regards to inner lining of hat, noticed that most have silk/satin interior lining but some have no lining at all, is that a quality issue or more of a comfort/seasonal choice, as well as a shaping issue? May have a few more questions, Thank You

Are you by chance looking at Borsalinos that are part of the weatherproof/rainproof line? Are they the Impervious (or similar spelling) hats?

No, the ones with no lining I'm looking at are the vintage, guessing 1950s, Barbisios and a few Borsalinos, they tend to be fur/felt and maybe a little more of the stingy brimmed style, quality appears high, Thanks

Most hats from these makers were sold with lining... even the lightest in weight. If sold unlined they would have an imprint on the felt at the top of the inside of the crown. Some owners removed liners after purchase. There are very good dedicated threads on both Barbisio and Borsalino. You might find answers to your questions on those pages.

Photos of the hats you’re looking at would help.

If you’re looking at 1950s hats I’m sure they are all fine so it’s down to style and that’s a question only you can answer.

Have you looked through the Barbisio and Borsalino threads?
