Geez, who doesn't look good in a Whippet? Gotta be one of the most flexible hats out there. That one looks great on S.B.G. but they also look great on people who look nothing like S.B.G. face-shape-wise. Great hats!
About that crease on Cattleman...
Is that something mostly done is more Western-style hats? I was trying to get almost that exact bash in my Alessandria over the weekend and just couldn't make it work. Having both the pinch and the dent up front matches the contours of my head and a crease...
Does the Mr. Airwate have a dimensional brim or is that just a trick of perspective because the sides are viewed edge-on? It looks to be much wider in front than on the side, combined with the slightly narrow ribbon it's a very nicely proportioned look.

Brando,
I'm almost certain that is a Borsalino Alessandria in Navy Blue. Fine hats. I have a two-year-old Taupe one that I love.
SteveAS,
That it an awesome, awesome Diplomat. I wouldn't want quite so wide a ribbon on a fedora but the proportions and colors on that Homburg are...
That may well be the hat I had in mind, although I had forgotten the burgundy edge treatment. But that shade of blue with a shiny but not bright-red ribbon. It was either Delectan's or one very similar that I was trying to recall. Thanks for the quick find.
I've browsed around the archives and saw a fair number of really dark blue hats. Like starting at a good, deep Navy blue and going darker. A couple of them have had red ribbons but none dark red. Anyone got a pointer to a photo of a burgundy or deep blood red ribbon on a dark blue hat?
I think I prefer bound brims to raw ones (although that just probably means I haven't seen a raw one I really like yet) but I don't like when it contrasts. So that Mallory is kind of the best of both worlds, bound brim but the binding is "barely there". Perfect.
I like it when the color almost exactly matches. And I guess I like it narrow. So I like it!
Filing that away in the memory banks in case a custom hat were to "ever" be in the cards...
I worried about that during the week it took to have the lenses made. So far after a half-day then one full day of wear they seem to fit well. The near vision is set just a bit higher than on my old glasses so I had to raise my chair at work so my head stays level at the computer. My pupils are...
And I'm guessing it just wouldn't be prudent to have only a single hat in any given color. I mean, what if your only Dove Gray fedora were off being cleaned on the day you want to wear the suit it goes with?
I asked some of my coworkers with kids about the trend of young people wearing...
No way I could have gone all the way to the Buddy Holly look or even some of the modern takes on that frame which are even wider and more blocky than Buddy Holly's. But a like these with a restrained tortoise-y color and smallish, which really is a more vintage proportion. Some of the...
I'll try to round up a photo of that taupe/brown hat with something I think it works well with vs. something it does not. Here's the hat and the shirt I was describing in separate pictures but they are cell-phone snaps with poor color reproduction. But in the mean while try to imagine the hat in...
T Rick probably nails the most important point. My reaction is mostly to certain hats with certain clothes, I guess. For instance yesterday I wore this absolutely favorite shirt, it's a small sort of windowpane check (or whatever you call it) with roughly equal amounts of white and a very...
My modern Borsalino Alessandria in Taupe. Summer is just about gone, just a couple weeks ago this picture would have been lighted by direct early-morning sunshine. Now it's still 5-10 minutes until the sun emerges from the downtown buildings, hence the Frowny Face...:(
Picked up the glasses late yesterday. I didn't get a particularly decent snapshot this morning but here is my Borsalino Alessandria with the new glasses, wearing the same shirt as in the two photos at the beginning of the thread. Looks fine to me (nice hat always helps).
And here it is...
I sometimes don't choose according to the "conventional wisdom" about clothing colors but I do want to at least know what is the "convention" before I decided to ignore it. :eusa_doh:
My best hat is a taupe color that mostly plays as brown. I find it works great with brown or tan or white...
Get a little more realistic with your numbers.
$100 in 1950 had the same buying power as $122.82, not $1,000!
Now by 1970 it was up to $161.00 because unlike the 50's, the 60's were an era of pretty meaningful increases in the CPI. But that really took off in the 70's so that by 1980 our...
