Steppenwolph,
Your hat was somewhat of a model I had in mind. After we had come up with the basic proportions and I had settled on brown (initially it was going to be a grey hat) I saw yours in this thread. Loved the lines and shape it had in profile view. So I told Tony that seeing yours...
About the color...I had a realization two days ago. Right after I got the E-mail saying it had been shipped.
Of all the colors of ribbon he showed me, this one just look more "right" the longer I looked at the picture. Then after the hat was finished it hit me. The hat and the ribbon have two...
Thanks, Eric.
I ended up letting Tony "surprise" me with the ribbon treatment. The width and color I picked from among several options he showed me. But after going back and forth for the whole time the hat was being made I had no idea what kind of bow I wanted. So I told him to do whatever he...
Here's my new brand-new Tumwater/TonyB hat (just arrived an hour ago) atop my same old noggin (much older and worse for the wear I must say).
and here's a comparison shot of it next to the Borsalino Alessandria that's been my everyday hat for the past two years.
A few more photos...
My first-ever custom hat, a TonyB creation from the Tumwater Hat Company!
Here are some comparisons with my two-year-old Borsalino Alessandria in taupe.
P.S. I really should have been patient enough to brush off the few little flecks of lint that accumulated during shipment from...
Man I'm a total sucker for a plain, brown hat of immaculate quality and soft, round lines. That Hückel is as nice a hat as one would ever hope to own and could be worn almost anywhere, for any occasion. Beauty.
I won't touch the "What is and what isn't dressy?" question but when I mentally place that Squatter hat on top of friend bingebob's head as pictured wearing that 3-piece suit, it does not seem to match up well. I'd say a corduroy or tweed jacket with a casual cut would be a different matter...
Coming Soon!
I'll recycle a photo from last month, just this one more time. Next time I post in this thread it will be with a different brown hat atop my noggin...I'm just sayin'...
Hard to believe this hat
and this one
issued forth from the same shop in the same month. Miles of pinch or no pinch at all? Wide ribbon or skinny ribbon? And don't get me started on the different bows! That's why they call them "Custom".
About the image-resizing thing...I've noticed that photos of hats with a velour finish or really with any sort of nap to the finish at all really change appearance as you mess with the photo resolution. Do the Tumwater hats have a little longer grain to the finish than some others?
Do you generally wear your brims turned up? Or is there something specific about this hat that favors the up-all-around instead of snapped-down look?
I love that color scheme although with my "gray" beard (it's getting closer to white, actually) it wouldn't work as well on me as on yourself.
Well heck, I thought the whole thread had gone tongue-in-cheek. Maybe it's one of those things like brim size and taper...it depends one whose tongue and whose cheek we're talking about...
Yeah, I thought the question was "stingy" as a generally accepted term. Not "stingy" as a shorthand for "shorter than whatever size I wear". I'm waiting for someone to chime in and say they wear a 3" brim so 2-7/8" is stingy.
It's kind of like making the mistake of posting a picture around here...
