I'm going with 2" on my new hat. It'll be a nice contrast to my Alessandria that has 2-1/2" sides and back and about 2-5/8" or a bit more in front. If I'll own two brown or taupe hats with fairly tall and square crowns I want them as different as possible brim-wise. And some days I'm in the mood...
I've got a couple of old, crummy wool hats. One has a 1-7/8" brim and it definitely looks stingy to me. The other is about 2-1/8" and it doesn't look stingy at all, even though it's a little taller and less tapered crown than the other.
So at 2" is where the line falls, whether a 2" brim is...
Guess whose head will be kept stylish and comfortable over the coming winter by a fine TonyB/Tumwater creation...
Why I think that would be ME. How 'bout that?
VetPsychWars,
I tend to see green in places other people don't. My Alessandria is a couple years older than yours but came from Bencraft in 2009. In natural lighting I do not detect more than just the very slightest tinge of green in mine. It plays more on the brown end of the "taupe"...
Today is an experiment. I dragged this wool cheapy out of the closest as a proof of concept of a 2" brim as an alternative to the 2-1/2" ones I wear every day. My next hat will be either 2" or 2-1/8" although with a nice, high, square crown.
I'm wearing a wool-felt hat that was the first...
Wine w/black would be good, that's basically an inverse of the brown w/light blue arrangement. I also thought about having gray or silver peek out from behind a brown ribbon, not as untraditional (or as eye-catching) as the brown w/blue. For my taste even something conservative like a dark brown...
I'm not in love with the electric-blue on dark brown color combination but what do you think about the style of ribbon on this Borsallino Gazella?
There's presumably not a whole blue ribbon behind the brown one but that's sort of the appearance it gives. I kind of like the thin line of a...
It's a look. Not one I'd wear but it definitely gives a certain impression. I guess the folks that wear little hats perched on the back of their head would feel the same about having one down over your eyes. Everybody's got a look in mind when they wear a hat.
Heck some people think ball...
So the prevailing opinion here is that there should be huge, punitive import duties on things made outside our own country...and that if we actually have to pay those import duties when we buy stuff it is robbery. Got it!
Yeah, but you can put a $500 duty on any hat originating outside the USA. It won't put any American companies into the hat business but it'll make sure nobody here can buy a hat from some pesky furriner.
Or maybe the government could just give Stetson $5 million dollars to start making hats...
I spent a few days at the beach with a high-school buddy of mine one summer during college, circa 1979. He was chatting up a nice, slightly older lady that we encountered somewhere or another and asked where she worked...
The Lady: "Piedmont Airlines"
My Buddy: "So are you a Stewardess?"...
Like most days, I'm wearing my taupe Alessandria today.
As mentioned in another thread, even with this new pinkish-purple shirt I like the taupe/brown color better than 'most any other color hat I could get. Out of the direct sun, there's very little of its brown tint to be seen anyway...
Well it cost you more than those who successfully cheat the government out of their duties and taxes anyway. At least you didnt forfeit the hat or have it returned to the sender.
I'll tell you what. I've just spent a few minutes trying on various shirts with my hats and I'm thiiiiis close to declaring that my taupe/brown hat works with everything except for a couple of shades of blue. That one sort of cornflower blue I mentioned is not a good match and it's not best with...
