My Hat Helped "Sell" My New Glasses

I should get them around the end of next week. So I'll try and get a snapshot like the ones I posted here with the new frames. When I first looked at them a couple weeks ago and put my hat on, the lady at the eyeglass shop said "Well, that definitely gives you a certain look!" but I'm not...

My Hat Helped "Sell" My New Glasses

Yeah, I'm buying them in a local shop but it's the model and color of the picture I linked. The color is called "Taupe Tortoise Pewter" which pretty much covers all the bases, I think. I don't like the really narrow (top to bottom) rectangular frames that are trendy right now. In fact I wanted...

My Hat Helped "Sell" My New Glasses

It's about time for a prescription upgrade on my bifocals. And I'd been wanting to get some plastic frames instead of the rimless titanium pair I've had for a couple years (they are too easy to tweak out of shape). So I went shopping at the eyeglass store. I found a pair that seemed very...

Homburg vs. Fedora? Which would be a better purchase?

If you want to look like a man in a Homburg hat then buy a Homburg. Otherwise, stick to one of the many variations on Fedoras. The "man in a Homburg hat" to me is a very specific look. I like the look but would not feel comfortable sporting it, myself. Dig through the Lounge and find some...

    Modern 100% Beaver felt fedoras.

I'd like to call the one on the left "Nice but not quite right for me" and the one on the right "Nice and I'll take it". Please!

NYT piece: Hat-wearing minority gets no respect!

Same reason I have a beard. I'd rather trim a beard once a week than trim my face every darned morning. I don't but myself trimming my beard, either.

Cool Photo in the Media (Current Day)

I like this picture... http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/.a/6a00d83451c45669e20147e31c079b970b-popup (Photo: A man looks out at the New York Stock Exchange on February 15, 2011 in New York City. By Spencer Platt/Getty.)

    1959 Fedora Styles

Man, great pointer there JtL. You're right, between '53 and '58 (roughly) those Stetson brims narrowed down a lot. Personally, I like that brown Custom V from 1954 but then I've got to admit the gray Ivy League from 1955 and later is pretty slick, too. Neat-o!

    1959 Fedora Styles

Thanks for all the pointers to classic movies, TV shows and such. And the two photos Tom N posted seem to very nicely bracket my two questions, don't you think? Maybe something like a Whippet is in the ballpark for the felt hat or even a bit stingier brim than that possibly. Love that hat of...

    1959 Fedora Styles

What type of hat would have been worn in 1959, let's say in Chicago or New York, by a middle-aged, middle-class professional man on a business workday? Basically what type(s) would have been reasonably stylish to wear with a suit each morning when he leaves home to commute to the office...

Humongous photo on wall of two men wearing fedora's

I like the lines of lighter-colored hat. Don't care for the black one so much.

    The BORSALINO BROTHERHOOD

Yes, my Astuccio has that same sewn edge (and the same ribbon sweatband). It's my summer/travel hat and the one thing I don't care for is how shapeless the brim is. I prefer the regular Borsalino bound brim which stays nice looking, the sewn one just flops into some random wave pattern unless...

    The BORSALINO BROTHERHOOD

That's a nice San Remo there. It looks grey to me...or is it some shade of brown? The brim is a little narrower than some without looking "stingy" at all. Does it have the felted edge like today's San Remo has?

    HAPPY FELT HAT DAY!

Every day is Felt Hat Day for me. I don't own any straw hats but I do own a Tilley for golf and outdoor activities.

What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

Friday 7:30am Forgot to change to my golf hat before teeing off...those fur felts get a little sweaty on the golf course even at 60F. I like the look though. Very classy in a 60's LA Country Club kind of way, don't you think? P.S. Not my golf cart BTW. Hate 'em.

"I could never pull off X"

I agree that 90% of "pulling off" a look, whether it be hat or shoes or whatever, is wearing it in the belief that it suits you. Which is why a lot of the hats I see in pictures on this forum make me say "I couldn't pull that look off". Some things I just can't imagine wearing and would not have...

New Generation Brims With Anxiety Over Hat Etiquette

This guy in my class in high school got a job as a crossing guard, mornings and afternoons at the middle-school next door. As a joke some of his friends bought him a hat from Radio Shack that was a yellow helmet with a rotating blue light on top and a button you could push to make a siren-like...

    Evil wears the hat

I'm trying to work in a reference to "Uneasy lies the head that wears the Borsalino..." but so far I'm coming up with nada.

Hey, That Guy's Got A Nice Hat

I would have definitely noticed once I stepped outside into the blazing sun without it. But crowded elbow to shoulder in a noontime restaurant lobby I'd be doing good to notice if I left my head behind. I hate crowds. Plus, to be honest, when I'm helping my mom navigate and so forth I'm pretty...

Hey, That Guy's Got A Nice Hat

Actually, he was the floor manager of the restaurant and had bolted out to the parking lot looking for me while I was in the men's room.
