After a bit of indecision I'm going as far "out there" as a Camel color for my upcoming Tumwater creation. Decided not to stop off at the rather conservative Whiskey but can't see myself in anything as light as Sahara or Sand. I've always liked Camel colored hats and coats but didn't consider it...
I like that pleated ribbon but what I really like is how it sort of matches the pattern (weave pattern?) in the hat itself. Dude comes up with some cool hats, I must say.
Well for one thing it's easy to put and keep a center dent in an open crown hat.
I use a center dent when I need to do the crease myself and a teardrop crown when I'm getting TonyB to do it for me. Can't make a decent teardrop to save my life!
Javi,
You got hats like I have handkerchiefs, you'll never run out.
Cute portrait.
DJH,
Do you buy your tee shirts to match your hat ribbons or the other way 'round?
Or occasionally someone might honestly observe that it's just a plain old ugly hat. I generally stick to the "if you can't say something good..." principle but it's fair play when asked to be politely honest. Nothing in the world wrong with simply saying "I don't think that hat [suit, etc.]...
I've gotta admit, DJH's steel-grey Tumwater hat look about as wonderful as a custom fedora could be. I feel like I have no choice but to...
...get another brown hat anyway. Apparently I suffer from a highly peculiar form of mental illness which leads those afflicted to wear a brown hat all day...
I did have one of my hats on when I went to pick out the frames for my latest glasses. My previous pair I had worn for years were the barely-there kind with basically transparent everything. But these are more noticeable so I wanted the whole effect to work.
Then I wore my other hat when I...
I like it but my taste runs to brown hat, brown shoes no matter what.
If the shirt were something slightly warmer than stark white, like an ivory or very faint tan color I'd like it even better. The next step more adventurous would be a shiny light-brown tie.
But as it I think it works...
Is that ribbon grey? Or maybe it's a black one that just comes out slightly grey on my monitor.
I love the stingy brim, like the felted edge (or do they call that welted?) and I really like that color on you.
Thought I'd run a little early-days stream of hat speculation by the Lounge crowd. Here is a picture of my chocolate brown TonyB hat, next to my "Taupe" Borsalino.
I'm starting to hanker for another Tumwater and as the owner of two brown hats it seems logical to cast my thinking...
Hi folks, been a while since I checked in at the Lounge.
I think this is the summer I'm going to get my first Panama hat. I'm one of the silly boys who will wear a lightweight felt hat in 'most any weather but a straw option really would be nice during July and August when the sun is high and...
2-1/8" to 2-1/4" brim, plenty of crown, not too much taper...and brown. That's my bread-and-butter hat, Stetson or not. The darker the brown the better (but light or medium brown is fine, too). A bound brim and a bow that isn't too wide are the topping on the cake.
It's when the Borsalino hats climbed above the $200-ish price point that I got serious about looking into having a beaver felt hat made. For me about 200 bucks is my comfort zone, owning and wearing two or three different $200 hats is akin to having several $150 pairs of shoes in the closet...
FWIW...
I have two (modern) Borsalino hats and one custom (Tumwater) hat. Clearly the Tumwater uses superior felt (all beaver, I believe) and the workmanship is more careful and elaborate. I'd say it is a substantially better but not so much as to make me quit wearing the Borsalinos.
A normal...
seed,
Criticism is generally appropriate but one must temper it with an awareness of the "echo chamber effect" which tends to amplify and repeat certain critical comments in a forum such as this one. For every utterance that Matt ever made about the quality of modern Borsalino hats, there are...
Wow, that Knox 20 is a great look for you Dirk. The proportions remind me of my Tumwater hat, albeit the Knox has a much wider ribbon. Is that about a 2-1/4" or so brim on it? I love a nice square (untapered) hat without too much brim on it. And the color is very nice, too.
