Hey Coble, I'd been away from the Lounge for awhile but, I'm still interested in seeing what you come up with on this. I will say this about tweed for hats: I like tweed because of its function. Tweed in its un-altered state is water-resistant, quick-drying and has a good ventilation factor -...
Vince Corvelli appears to be the real deal:

He's still in business, as far as I know. I got an email from him this past July.
I agree with StandBy that lobster mitts are great for cycling. What I use most though, for general Winter use, are fingerless gloves that convert into mittens. Some people refer to them as "glittens".
I'm still interested in donegal tweed hats that have a full brim of 2.5 inches. Whether walking-hat, fedora or boonie style, I'm interested. In order to reinforce the shape of the crown, you could use interior piping.
Capwise, I might be interested if it provides a way to fine-tune the...
I think the Adventurer looks significantly different from the Fed IV. The brim of the Adventurer looks to me like an aussie style, while the Fed IV appears to have a snap-brim.
I've considered buying clothes through Rakuten but never tried it. I want to have an easier return, in case the garment doesn't happen to work for me. I'd like to know if there are any Japanese wool clothing brands, that have been mentioned in this thread, which I can obtain from USA-based...
Graphite might essentially be black. I'd get brown, tan or a lighter grey but, that's me. There's a thread somewhere here titled No Love For Black Hats, which explains it all. :)
Why ISN'T anyone making reproductions of these types of jackets? I check this forum practically every day, sifting through a dominating pile of leather topics, hoping that something made of wool, with a belted back will show up.
That jacket worn by John Longden, in the film The Silver Fleet...
That's some really expensive tax and shipping. Look for a hat store that you can visit in person. Trying the hat on before you buy it is also a good idea to make sure you get the right size.
I doubt my jacket would be called a 'flight' jacket. It looks quite different from the one pictured. The length of it is somewhere between that jacket and a modern fashion bomber jacket. Storm cuffs have a sleeve that extends over the knit portion. The collar folds over and is made of the...
So during the '90s, I used to wear a field-green nylon bomber jacket. It had storm cuffs, adjustment tabs/buttons (forgot which) at the back/waist, some kind of wool or poly-felt lining that was the same color as the nylon, a fold-over collar, one of the most substantial zippers I've ever seen...
Sadly those hats usually have brims which are not wide enough to provide sun protection. If they had a 2.5" brim, and no water repellent added, they'd be great all-around hats for the type of climate I'm usually in (not sure about desert areas). Lightweight tweed works for me in both Winter...
I wish there were tweed fedoras with 2.5" brims. I have a tweed cap that's quite comfortable to wear in any weather (untested in desert climates though).
I wear my panama only if the chance of rain is low.
Not sure I could sport the harrington style. Maybe if it had the waist-adjustment tabs that I've seen on some of them. A tweed harrington might persuade me.
Any updates on this?
I need a hat that's suitable for Summer but doesn't get destroyed in rain. I have a tweed cap that works this way but, it obviously doesn't offer enough shade or protection from rain.
