Braces/Suspenders
Can someone talk a little about the different types of trouser suspenders? A few months ago I got my first that button-on, thinking that it would give me some vintage style. They are the Y-back kind, with ends that look like this:
Typical suspenders have straps that are...
Your post is still relevant, Feraud. The other guy's though seems to be posted for the sole purpose of promoting an unrelated business. No other posts to his/her name. Just saying...
I'd certainly consider a nicer hat for the same price, if it has good ventilation. The problem is that I'm not finding many panamas whatsoever with ventilation. The hat I'm asking about is the nicest one I'm seeing in my search results on the 'bay.
Does anyone have experience with these hats or the seller of them?

Also, if anyone knows about panama hats, is there a way to snap that brim upwards in the back? I have no...
If the first one doesn't work in your eyes, just get one that's different. You could start off with an open-crown fedora, especially one with easily pliable felt, such as the Akubra Sydney. Then you could at least change the crown to your liking. That's exactly what I bought.
For a first time hat buyer in the USA, I'd suggest ordering from one of the USA-based shops. WranglerOutpost.com is another one (although I have no experience with it). That way, if the size is wrong, the exchange is relatively easy (which I do have experience with - had to exchange my first...
In the case of a tweed fedora, the crown shape isn't the important part for me, it's the sun-shading, 2.5" brim. A crown that avoids the conical-look, wouldn't hurt though.
I've found one tweed fedora with 2.5+" brim but, it was the S,M,L,XL variety (I also didn't like the green or pink...
Coble,
I've been looking for a tweed fedora with a 2.5" non-dimensional brim. I'm not interested in the conventional walking bucket hat style per se but, if you can give it a reasonably stiff brim that's 2.5", I would definitely consider it. Also, I'm not interested at all in hats that are...
I think it contrasts well in both of those photo shoots. Where the shadow is hiding the contrast, you'd need the ribbon to be self-illuminating if you wanted to show contrast.
Oops! I'd forgotten who the original poster was.
Looking back to the first post of the thread, I see that the original poster was asking if removing the liner makes a comfort difference in the heat. Where I'm located, it does. My first off-the-shelf felt hat, an Akubra Sydney, came with a...
CS,
They already had the liner removed from their felt hat and, kept an eye out for a semi-calado hat in woven straw/leaf. That's what they currently do, at least.
So it seems that the OP's actual issue has to do with liners in low humidity and not high heat per se. Maybe the thread title...
I'd say that the optimo-crown hat in the lower left of this photo shows an example of the edge curl that I'm asking about. I've seen wider-brimed hats that have this edge curl as well.
On a typical homburg, I've heard the upturned edge of the brim referred to as a pencil curl. What about when the edge is truly curled, where it looks like it really was molded around a torus (aka doughnut) shape? I've seen this mostly on panama and other woven hat types, on instances when the...
I'm not necessarily looking for a hat that will repel the rain (on the contrary, I'd prefer the hat to have good ventilation). I just want it to be durable enough that I don't have to leave it at home on days when Summer rain storms are predicted. And if it needs to be said, I want it to...
I guess I should've probably stated that I want to avoid hats made of non-biodegradable material altogether.
What ARE the problems that straw hats have in the rain?
Common opinion is that straw hats aren't a good choice for the rain. Without much straw hat experience though, I don't know the reasons for that. Where I live it's not uncommon, during the Summer, for the weather to change from hot to rainy in the same outing. What type of hat would be...
