Re-blocking to Long Oval.
Would it be a good idea to order a hat with a dimensional brim (e.g. Akubra Fed IV) but, have the retailer reblock it to a Long Oval? I recently received my first panama. The retailer specially blocked it as Long Oval at my request. That made the brim shorter in front/back by approx .25". So... -

Are there any treatments, oil-based or otherwise, that help prevent a panama from getting brittle? I'm currenty awaiting my first panama ever. Would like to keep it in good condition, especially if I can't prevent it from getting rained on. -

I seem to fall in the upper middle-brow. I do currently wear military/hunting clothes along with my felt hat but, I think I get a pass for them not being camo. At least they're USA-made (and hopefully not in a sweatshop), which is more than even many self-classified highbrows can say about... -

The hood on a rain slicker is waterproof. If you substituted that for your furfelt fedora, you'd likely notice sweat developing before long. -

I hope fur felt isn't waterproof. One of the draws of felt, for me, is that it's breathable, like a sweater or wool socks. I perceived that it was, at least. I wear my Akubra outside in the rain and all is good. Any garment that's waterproof is also sweat-inducing, which in turn can stink. -

How do you search for non-runner-end suspenders? Nearly everything I find happen to be runner-end. The one current production suspender I can find that has the ends I'm looking for, Welch brand, gets bad reviews on Amazon.- Nyah

I hear you, Fedoracentric. I should clarify that I'm not questioning what anyone has said about felt used in some Akubra hats. I'm just curious if anyone knows the answer to my question. It would be nice to know how the different qualities of felt are achieved. -
