Does anyone have (or know of) a hemp milan fedora, with the same type of venting that Akubra uses for their Range hat?
Does anyone know how Akubra achieves the venting in their Range hat? Do they switch to a really open braid for that section?
The Stetsons I was refering to are the hemp Stratoliner, the felt Runabout and the Traveler fedoras. The Stratoliner being S,M,L was a huge disappointment for me because I was waiting for it, counting on it being my durable, warm weather hat.
I'll check that new catalog for an unreeded (i.e...
Alright, you asked for rants about Stetson. I have one. Stetson seems to have fallen. All of the Stetson hats that I would've otherwise bought this year are sized in S,M,L rather than hat sizes. That doesn't work for me at all.
I'm curious as to what these weather-related problems are, which Akubras are known to resist. What is happening to other furfelts that don't seem to be happening to Akubras?
What's the reed for?
As a LongOval/Extra-LongOval, I haven't had much love for the reed and would prefer that hats didn't have them. What is the reason for this component of hats?
Looks good. You want my opinion of oilcloth in summer though. I see oilcloth as a biodegradeable version of rubber. I wouldn't want to wear garments made from it, in any season, due to its inability to ventilate. I'd choose a furfelt before oilcloth, a milan before furfelt. I currently wear...
I've checked out the websites of both Bencraft and Peters Brothers but have not found anything mentioning hemp. Peters Bros site is especially sparse on info. No mention of hemp on their FB page either.
I used to wear sunglasses and no hat. Now I wear a hat everytime but sunglasses only when driving a vehicle. In my opinion, sunglasses give a false sense of security. If I can't tell when the sun is dangerous, I'm risking skin damage.
As for a brim, I believe that 2.5" is the minimum for...
It's the fedora brim which is important to me, not the crown. Yes, the Balmoral would be great if it had a snap-brim. I like to snap the brim up when I'm not wearing the hat, as it's then easier to manage.
Actually, it's not just the down-front, up-back that I'm after. It's the ability to snap it up all around during the times when I'm not wearing the hat. It's just easier to manage that way (doesn't require a hat-rack).
You're probably right. Searching though has turned up very little. I thought I'd be set with the new hemp stratoliner but Stetson has opted to go the ultra-cheap, S,M,L route.
I was mainly thinking of changing just the flange, to give it a snap. However since the brim is also too big for my liking (I prefer 2.5"-2.75"), I thought maybe I could remove some of the slack by increasing the height of the crown (better idea than cutting the brim down, no?), thus making it...
