The photos on their facebook page look to me like natural, greyish and chocolate brown.
When I hear "peanut butter", I think of something more like 'whiskey' or 'fawn'. If it's more like that, I'm starting to get very interested.
I'm considering ordering one of the other colors next. I need to find out what the colors truly look like though, so that I can choose a ribbon color that I like on the final result.
When I requested the lightest of the three hues they offer, it was in reference to the three posted on their facebook page.
In the pics you've posted of your hat, it sure looks like the same hue as mine. I think this photo conveys the color of my PB hat well:
Only if it suffers an accident But even then, it can be washed by hand rather than dry-cleaned. I wear some kind of woven wool clothing every day (unless the weather is really hot) but don't wash it afterwards. There really isn't any need to wash these garments, since wool doesn't retain the...
My hat's the same hue as yours.
I have only seen three hues of hemp milan that Peters Bros offers. The lightest hue is what Bob Roberts and I have. Here they are from P.Bros' facebook page:
I welcome a dedicated thread for PB Hats.
What are PB's current color offerings for hemp milan? Last I saw they offered three hues: the light natural that BobR and I got, a dark brown and then a medium brown.
TropicalBob, give us pics of your PB hat after you get it, will you?
I wasn't really even trying to make a close reproduction of a stratoliner. I'm not a tall guy and wasn't sure if a 3+" brim or huge crown would work for me.
That said, I also placed an order for a Bob Roberts model, just for kicks.:o
The crown is 5" at it's highest and the brim is 2&5/8". In addition to that I told them I wanted the crown to be as straight-sided as possible, with a teardrop crease. I also said I wanted the ribbon and binding to match a vintage Stratoliner but that was my only request in which I specified...
Another example of a custom hemp milan by P.Bros is my strato. The brim binding is not included in the $100 sale extension but, even without, this would still be a functional and durable (and stylish, IMO) hat for Summer.
Specs and full size pics available here.
That Penman hook looks pretty versatile but, it's a lot bigger than what I'd want to carry around in my pocket. I already carry keys, cellphone, PDA, etc and this looks at least as big as a PDA/smartphone.
It's understandable, considering that wool clothing doesn't need to be washed (unless it suffers some kind of accident). It's a huge difference from what stores are passing off as clothing today.
+1 on the P.Bros hemp milan. I have one and it's my all-time favorite Summer hat. Much more durable than any panama, much better ventilation than non-calados.
This bothered me so much that, during a 5-day conference which I recently attended, I ended up wearing an old, unstructured boonie with a floppy brim, just to meals, simply because it had a lanyard that allowed me to 'wear' the hat on my back when not on my head. After eating, I'd return...
I would like to have/use a 'meal hook' for my fedora, as long as it's small enough for a hip pocket and doesn't leave a pinch mark. I'm not sure if such a device exists.
Is the brim-break only visible when the brim is snapped down on one end while it's left up on the opposite end (e.g. down in front, up in back) and easiest to locate when the side of the hat is facing you?
