:D me too, doesn't it make you feel famous? :D people have come up to me and said things like 'me and my friends are always talking about how great you look', as though they know me, when they're complete strangers! I do wonder what those conversations go like...
First ever photo post so bear with me... my latest Etsy spree. To be fair, I've had my eye on a few of these things for months.
And there's a lot more... Hello, my name is Frenchy and I have a vintage shopping addiction.:o The cream dress is 60s, the sage dress is 50s, and the brown one is...
If anyone does buy those shoes, could we have a report on the quality? :D I know they're not going to have decades of wear in for $18, but if they seem completely flimsy then I'd rather know...
Really enjoying the disussion in this thread, especially the stuff about college campuses, as I am a student and I stick out like a sore thumb amongst the sea of flip-flops, short dresses, shorts and t-shirts! I am always without exception dressed, coiffured and made-up in some kind of 40s or...
Being one of those 'youth', albeit one who wears nothing above the knee and loves 50s-style full-cup longline bras and huge high-waisted knickers, I treasure this quote :D
Hello ladies! After an extended absence I'm back (life took over :) ) and will try and post more often!
One of my new year's resolutions is to start a blog, mainly as an outlet for my love of all things vintage/vintage-inspired (40s and 50s). I need somewhere to rave about my $40 vintage...
Not quite a compliment as such, but more of a public reaction... I took my Dad out to see the Glenn Miller orchestra last night (which was awesome beyone words by the way!). I wore a 50s-style navy blue button down dress (classic sundress-type shape), with a pair of vintage shoes and my aurora...
Forgive me if I have already posted about this, but before I got my perm I started a thread on here called 'should I get a perm?'. I got tons of helpful replies, advice and accounts of personal experience, so if you are thinking of going down that route then check that thread, you might find...
That sounds like it should work. I'm almost certain that setting hair that is only slightly damp will be better than setting dripping wet hair. Even before I had my perm I would have to at least towel dry my hair before I put in my rollers. Good luck! :)
Miss Elisabeth, is the problem with the curls not being dry and properly set? If so, is using a hairdryer for a little bit beforehand not an option? I have to do this with my (permed) hair, or it never dries! As it seems you know, there is a hell of a lot of difference between a not-quite dry...
VintageRose, Tatum's advice in the post below is very good. I just wanted to add, though, about the humidity issue: in my experience, and probably a lot of others, humidity or any kind of dampness will make set curls drop/fall out, and wind just makes it worse. Windy weather on its own is not so...
Just as a disclaimer, I'm not a hairdresser, so any advice is from my own personal experience, but: I think if you make it clear to your stylist that you do *not* want a curly perm, just a bit of wave/body, that should save you from an 80s-style hair nightmare! You might have to convince them a...
Sorry I can't be of help with your main query, but re: the perm, you might want to take a look at a thread I started called 'should I get a perm?'. I got tons of helpful replies, and though my hair type is different to yours, you might find you have a lot of the same queries as I did. I've had...
I want to firmly second the stuff about vintage hairstyling - at least basic sets - being less time-consuming than a lot of modern routines! Case in point: I used to shower and wash my hair every night *without fail*, which also meant blow drying, and straightening the next morning (then still...
I've never tried cleaning anything that old, but I have washed a vintage wool skirt- using stain remover on some marks, then handwashing and line drying. It got the stains out with no perceivable damage to the fabric. I don't know if that's any help to you. I would hesitate to be the one who...
Maybelline's Superstay 24hr in Red Passion has quickly become my holy grail- I will never go bac to using regular red lipstick again. I've raved about it before in this thread, I think. It's a lovely bright colour-not too orangey, not too bluey or purpley- and the staying power is astonishing. I...
I don't have pictures, but I have short bangs, and the most 'authentic' 40s look I do is having two victory rolls with a scarf/snood/roll in the back. I know there are pictures a few pages back of someone wearing this style (without bangs though I think). I always roll or pincurl my bangs so...
For cleansing? For toning? For makeup removal? Please enlighten me, I love tricks like that- like the £1.50 a bottle pure witch hazel that I use as a toner, replacing my £7 Lush toner that contained parabens...
