I know this is an old thread, but I thought I'd counterbalance all the velcro roller hate - which I do normally share :p - and say they are practically the ONLY way I can curl my Betty bangs. I have tried EVERYTHING- agonisingly fiddly pincurls and damaging curling tongs were my only solution up...
Looking back at the list of head-turners that I posted, they're all things that are rarely seen nowadays outside of certain situations, e.g. hats, gloves, large hair flowers are now seen as something one wears in very formal situations, weddings etc. Thus it's not really surprising they garner...
To be honest, from my own experience, go with what you like and what feels good, and learn to ignore/ disdain the people who will inevitably be jealous/ ignorant/ downright nasty and act accordingly!
Seriously though, I agree with the stuff about starting off small, say with a polka dot top...
Thanks for replying- I guess that was kind of a stupid question anyway, the only way I'll find out is through trying! Blame my perm-induced excitement for my asking strangers questions about my hair that they can't possibly answer! :D
Glad that my questions - and everyone's very helpful...
Thanks, it's great that it turned out well for you too! :) Glad my thread has helped others!
With regards washing, I WISH I could wash mine now! This rich conditioner is making it feel lank and look flatter than (I hope) it actually is! I was told I should wait four days minimum before...
...I think it went well :D My hairdresser was impressed with the condition of my hair, obviously my new setting routine has done it good, not having to wash it so often and not blowdrying it! She said that it took really well and that there was very little damage to my hair, which is great...
I am FINALLY getting my perm today! :D I am so excited, I swear that's why I didn't sleep very well :P thanks again to everyone that took the time to reply to this thread and advise me!
Just bought these cute white gloves for summer, to protect my hands from the sun (I get some sort of heat rash, just on my hands ) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110671262935
My Mum does this all the time! I do too when I'm wearing red- I do a couple of coats of my Bourjois lipstain, which is a very orangey-red, then dab a deeper (I guess it's a 'true' red?) lipstick over the top.
Btw, for anyone reading this in the UK: Collection 2000's Volume Sensation lipstick...
You're welcome! :) I think it is par for the course, pretty much. I'm not sure if your hair eventually settles down- I don't know what your previous routine was, but before I started setting I washed my hair every day without fail. I gradually stretched it out to every three days, then every 5...
LolitaHaze, great hair! Can I ask- do you have a middy cut, and if so, is it layered? I ask because I have an unlayered middy, and my hair is about your length in the back, and whilst the back of yours looks lovely and curly, I always seem to get only long straight bits with a few wispy curls...
I must say, whilst I have the utmost empathy and *hugs* for everyone who's ever been stared at, laughed at, looked up and down, sniggered at, insulted or had any other despicable public rudeness about their vintage looks, it does make me feel somewhat less disheartened and depressed to know that...
I just wanted to add, for the benefit of any future readers, I have had success with actually setting my hair into this shape beforehand- you have to be a bit organised and know for certain that you want to wear this style the night before, but I greatly prefer rolling my hair so the standing...
Are you securing them properly, with enough pins/clips? Are you fully combing/brushing out the sections of hair before you roll? Are you using big enough sections of hair/winding too tight? That's all I could think of!
Can't see how a setting lotion would stop the tangling but if you're not...
No problem! So glad to have advised someone, I always feel guilty cause I'm always the one asking questions! Hope it works out well for you!
P.S., how 'wet' is your hair before you roll it? Cause you know it doesn't have to be dripping to get a good set, mine is usually anywhere from...
I FEEL YOUR PAIN! .... :D my nose is slightly wonky - it curves over to one side, so one side of my face looks completely different in profile t the other... typically, that's also the side with my wonky tooth. Aren't I a stunner *eyeroll*
To all those whose men are hostile to their retro...
I can help- I must apologise though, I've been ranting about standing pincurls on a number of threads- I'm fairly new to the retro/vintage world and it's totally transformed my setting routine- see my last post in the pincurls thread :D
Anyway, to answer your questions:
- I keep them in using...
AdrianLvsRocky, I think I might have said this before, but the photos you posted of your freshly-cut middy were so helpful to me and my hairdresser, thank you :D I basically got exactly the same cut as you and I love it, bangs and all, I hope you don't mind :D
