'Weights' in clothing? (vintage patterns)
I have a puzzling question... my latest vintage pattern calls for a '1 inch medium weight'. What is this? At first I thought it was a typo, but the instructions say that it is meant to be covered by fabric and sewn into the blouse. If it helps, the...
An excellent question! I used two vintage cover buttons yesterday for a dress and they look great, and using vintage notions for a vintage pattern - especially if they're from the same era - is so satisfying and special, though like you, I hated taking them off the card, especially as it was...
Teehee, thanks! :) It's the best present I've ever had, and it's not even my birthday! :D
I'm torn between wanting to keep them all pristine and wanting to actually use them! I will though!
Ladies,
I had the most wonderful vintage sewing-related surprise today, and wanted to share it with those I know will appreciate it!
A while ago, an old family friend mentioned on a recent visit that she used to run a haberdashery and fabric shop in the 60s. Hearing of my newfound love of...
Ladies,
I just finished making an adorable faux cheetah collar (with satin lining!). Trouble is, whilst I can fasten the collar itself, I can't think of a way to *temporarily* secure it to my sweaters, etc, without damaging the fabric and the collar. Any ideas? Hope that makes sense. Some...
Black Dahlia, that's fabulous! :D glad I was able to help! I do hope you like them as much as I do!
New mega-post: my reviews of some MUA makeup products that I can't do without, including eyeliner, shadow and primers! Check it out- cheap need not mean rubbish ;)

aaah I'm in love with this! If I didn't have a pile of patterns lined up ready to go I'd be hunting down this one ASAP!
Lovely, perfectly accessorised too! Well done! :)
Great! Let me know if you do! They are good quality, they wash and last really well. And it's great that the colors seem to coordinate with the most common colors of vintage bras.
Hello,
I am in the process of having a massive wardrobe clearout and have begun listing on eBay today. I have a few standout pieces lined up to list soon including a 1930s or 40s hat, a vintage 50s Jonathan Logan sundress in great condition, and a beautiful set of deep pink reverse carved...
That was the version I found when I went to CVS. It smells different to the one in the cardboard box. I personally prefer the latter, just because I am forever tipping the plastic one upside down and banging it to try and get enough powder thr the sifter. It does come with a little powder puff...
Black Dahlia, the beginning of your post struck a chord with me! I too love 'granny panties', though I am constantly insisting to friends that they are, in fact, 50s-style high-waisted knickers... loved your suggestions, and whilst not strictly 'repro' or officially 'vintage inspired', I love...
do you mean of the reprint pattern? If so, that's really interesting, and somewhat comforting to know that I'm not alone, and that it's not something I did wrong! I was on the verge of tears when I tried it on after five solid days of making the damn thing! It was that frustrating! :P
BTW...
Seconded! ;)
Was so happy to find it when I was in the US. I prefer the version without the sifter. Smells gorgeous, looks lovely on your dressing table, is superfine and never cakey. Methinks I'll be putting in a bulk order when mine runs out!
Hello!
I second the responses that a handheld hairdryer will not circulate air enough. You'll end up with dry roots and wet ends. If you still want to use sponge rollers with a handheld dryer your best bet is to dry your hair so it's almost dry, put in the rollers, then before you go to bed...
Do you mean the tie-shoulder one, or the other one I posted about? B5556. Just checking, I'm paranoid that the other pattern won't come out right either, and I've got six and a half metres of fabric waiting for it! :p
I know! Don't be completely discouraged though. It is a lovely style and my attempt definitely wasn't a failure... I'm just not 100% happy with it. I will probably put pics of the dress up on my blog, so perhaps you might be interested to see how the finished garment came out. I'll definitely...
ohhhh man, that's so annoying! I finished making the dress on Wednesday and it didn't turn out brilliantly (though I am a perfectionist ;) ). Now I wish I'd sought out the original! I expected that the reprint pattern would be easier to fit and use but we had real trouble. I've only made two...
