Lovely cape, good question!
I wear my fur stuff over daytime wear in winter. I think when it's legitimately cold enough to wear something like that for warmth and not just show you can probably wear it over anything.
Also, I think it all probably just goes back to bigger questions of...
Unfortunately, (and to my detriment!) I have never made a muslin first! I know that I should! I just muddle through, with the help of my Mum, though even she was stuck with this one! I can't fathom quite why the bodice was the way it was. I understand that the style is meant to be slightly...
Not quite a 'show us what you've made', but... I recently started Simplicty 2123 from 1945- view 2 in royal blue gingham with solid royal blue contrast on the shoulders and belt (and pockets, maybe, I'm debating).
Has anyone else tried it? I've been having major difficulties and it'd be good...
Thanks, Miss G! And I am, sadly, well aware that there are plenty of gorgeous gold vintage dresses on Etsy! :p I think I'll end up making one, eventually. But thanks for the tip! And by the way, I've also been leaning towards early 60s styles, though I'm a 50s gal at heart- those bateau...
Aw, I'm shy! :p Seriously, I can never bring myself to post photos, for a number of reasons. 'Describe your hairdos/purchases' etc is nowhere near as fun, I know... maybe one day!
Thanks, anyway! I'm excited about experimenting again with pincurls now, and this great video from Lisa Freemont...
I am so happy right now :D
I flat pincurled my hair for the first time in ages whilst watching Goodfellas last night (:D), purely because I couldn't be bothered to go and fetch my rollers and a mirror, and the results are not just great, but have miraculously given me the hairstyle I've been...
Thanks so much for the detailed instructions, Penny! This sounds reasonably easy, I just wish my hair was longer- my longest layers are not quite to my jawline, so I'll have to wait another few months before I can attempt this :( (why is it hair grows when you don't want it to, but not when you...
Miss Golighty, is that a gold dress?! If it is.... aaaah I am so jealous :p I have wanted a gold 50s or early 60s sheath dress for so long. I even found some great fabric to make one, and I have a nice simple pattern that would show it off beautifully- I just don't know when I'd wear it... I'm...
Looks wonderful! Please share your secret...? :)
It looks like you have fairly long hair so this'll probably still be off limits to me, but I'd love to know anyway!
Another shameless plug :D more of my vintage and retro stuff for sale. Pics on my blog. Including lots of sweet rockabilly stuff, a couple of 80s-does 40s-and-50s dresses, a beautiful black hat, and some gorgeous modern dresses that are dead ringers for vintage originals! Please take a look! :)
You may have seen this but there is a detailed review with pics here. http://www.jointhestylehighclub.com/2012/04/24/tested-sculpture-pin-curler/
It looks intriguing, but methinks it's just a tarted-up version of the Sally's gadget that Tatum posted about... the packaging looks lovely but it...
Just a trivial point, but whilst that bust measurement may be close to a size 12, that waist and hip measurement is teeny-tiny. I was a UK size 6 (a while back, those days are long gone ;)) and my waist was 24-5 inches. Seems like the wasp waist was not entirely down to engineering...!
Thanks for the responses! and Sheeplady, it's not that weird a suggestion! I was thinking that clips would be the way to go- they'd hold firmly, but temporarily, and wouldn't damage the sweater or the collar. So thanks for confirming!
I was going to buy some small plain metal alligator clips...
I know how you feel! Not just cause of warmer weather, but because my hair is at that awkward inbetween stage where nothing looks good. Last November I had all my hair chopped off to just longer than a pixie, and ever since then I've been fighting the urge to get it cut short again! Only trouble...
You're welcome :) I often have to force myself to make these kind of decisions! Do post again once you've had it taken in!
I'm not experienced enough in alterations to really diagnose (and without seeing the dress), but if you say the side seams are alright, then I don't think the bust has...
Fabulous dress! :)
In my opinion- and echoing the previous poster - you should ask yourself if you are ever going to *happily* wear it as is. If the answer is no, then you have nothing to lose by having it altered. And I'm guessing that whoever you take it to will have you try it on and pin...
Seconded! :) Great look! I love early/mid-60s bouffant looks, both up and down. I can't wait til my hair grows another couple inches so I can try them! At the moment it's not even long enough to do a french twist, so the updos are out, and my layers mean that this, my ideal hairdo, doesn't look...
Thank you both! I appreciate the info and advice very much!
I'm continually disgruntled at how misleading pattern envelopes can be... it says on the back that pleats create the cowl neckline, yet lo and behold, get to step 8 in the instructions and you need these weights! I've found that the...
