*Very* nice profile! I like the backward-slant you get at the front crease.
Wow - you aren't kidding around when you put crease in - that's the tightest pinch I've ever seen! Very unique, and the hat looks great on you.
Well done!
I wonder... if you take a picture with the hat farther back in the distance, if you'd get that "paper wrinkle" effect you pointed out in those old photos.
My wife is into spinning yarn, and she says that Angora rabbits are sheered, not killed, for their fur.
What wikipedia has to say:

Hmm... looks like they molt, so maybe it's not sheered. Still, you have a live rabbit afterwards :)
Iola - I'm probably about 100 miles due south of you.
We're recent transplants - I was born, grew up, and worked for 20 years in the San Francisco Bay Area. We decided to try out the small-town life, bought some acreage, and are slowly acquiring a herd of random animals :).

I suspect it was a combination of things:
1. They're worn every day, and naturally get abused and hence they have a less than pristine look. Modern equivalent: a mechanics naturally worn/torn/dirty jeans.
2. When things become commonplace, people often stop thinking about them altogether...
There are some pictures here of Chewbacca Jones' Akubra Federations in black, brown, and gray:

That makes a lot of sense -- so maybe my DM Cattleman is just an oddity? That or DM orders them that way?
Funny you mention that -- the reason I ordered a second Cattleman from David Morgan was exactly that: the Aussie Bush Hats Cattleman didn't have the gromits and connecting points...
Thanks to this and the other Campdraft thread, I just ordered one in Silver Belly for $92.57 (US, including shipping) from aussiebushhats.com.au
I'm not sure if that included the $4.99 upcharge on the Silver Belly or if they forgot.
One thing to note: my 2 Akubras from AussieBushhats (one of...
Steve Delk's work really is top notch!
Maybe you could try just getting one $100-ish hat from Akubra for now (in a light or mid gray?), and save up for your very own charcoal Adventurebilt? You will not be sorry in the long run - it's built to last a lifetime.
Steve's backordered for...
Alas I haven't. My hat collection is rather small by FL standards: the charcoal AB, 3 Akubras in Black, Sand, and Lagoon Blue (the last being a really unique and pretty color), and a black Stetson Gun Club "Royal Flush" (it looks a bit like what Robert Conrad wore in The Wild Wild West)...
Here are a couple more photos of the charcoal AB, to show how it can take on the color temperature of the light thats hitting it.
The first is of my daughter, who likes to dress up with my hats and glasses :D. This is with flash, and it pretty accurately shows the color.
The second is under an...
