    Show us what you've made!

There are so many cute things that you ladies have made! I made a bias skirt out of some left over material to go with my 30's 3 hour sweater.

Show us your vintage knitting and crochet!

I am trying to learn to knit. So, I attempted the three hour sweater. It isn't perfect, but it is wearable. I may knit another one in the future. I joined Ravelry too, so you can read about it there if you are so inclined.

    Sewing Lessons & FAQ

Can you ask the seller about the "hand" of the fabric? You should be able to find Osnaburg at any Joann's in their home dec/utility section if you want to see some in person. It is heavier than muslin, but there may be different grades available out there. I've never seen any in black...

    Sewing Lessons & FAQ

^It depends on the pattern Audrey. I buy pants/skirts to fit hips usually, but I generally prefer to buy tops/dresses to fit my shoulders then alter to fit my large bust. If I don't do this the shoulders come out enormous. I find it easier to make patterns larger than smaller. In your...

Money No Object/1 Outfit For The Ball

I'd want something white and frothy, like Penelope Cruz's dress from Lily and Cie. This one is vintage Balmain. Something similar in 1890's style would be okay too. I am thinking Worth.

    Nothing but Seamed Stockings

Sorry to get in your face, but this is bugging me. They charge more than "loansharks" because they are an American company with a vertically integrated business model that pays their workers fair wages and gives them benefits. I think this is a good reason to patronize them rather than...

    Sewing Lessons & FAQ

I made up view b, but not the others. If you can sew a straight line view c shouldn't be too bad. I would replace the buttons with a busk or hook and eye though myself, or does it have a busk? I guess I should find my pattern and check.

    How old is your house?

Mine was built about 1921, however it is in pretty bad shape. The only reason it isn't falling down is that it was stuccoed about 10 years ago. Before that it was a wood frame building. It was originally housing (2 room shack) for fishery workers. It started out under 300 sq feet and...

What are you cooking for Christmas - your traditional foods?

I attended an almost traditional Ukrainian Sviata Vechera dinner on Christmas eve. Bread Honey Garlic Barley Manchaca (mushrooms) Potatoes Green Peas Beans Sauerkraut Kielbasa (instead of the traditional fish--though I didn't eat any because I am a vegetarian) Perogies Dried...

Was there such thing as comfy clothes???

Clothing is more comfortable if it isn't too tight. So, if you get a few things that are roomy and soft fabrics they will be comfortable. They also had lounging pajamas for wear at home. Jersey was actually popular from the 1920's on. There was a big jersey knit dress or skirt/top craze...

    Skin Bleaching the safe way...

There may be no safe way to bleach your skin, but there are skin lightening creams that are safe. I decided that I didn't like my facial freckles a few years ago and managed to lighten them a lot. I used to use a Chanel lotion, but it was discontinued. It was really good, but the only...

    Favourite Scents

Shalimar is not similar at all. It has a strong amber note. Vol de Nuit is lighter and softer. I would just wear Vol de Nuit if I were you (and if I had a bottle instead of a small sample). However, if you insist on a man's fragrance, it is heavy on the iris to my nose. You could try...

    Show us what you've made!

Lauren, the jeans look great. When sewing jeans, I always did the top-stitching on the outside seam while they were flat (before sewing inner leg seam). I wouldn't attempt it after the legs were sewn.

    Favourite Scents

There is parfumerie in French, but most scents were purchased at department stores, five and dime stores, pharmacies or boutiques in the US as far as I know.
