    That's part of the reason certain phrases have disappeared; when you have to explain to someone what the term means (and it's origin) it disrupts the flow of the conversation. I enjoy enlightening younger people and getting a spark of recognition from people of a certain age, but after a while...

    Slipshod is synonymous and perhaps a trifle more utilized. It's a shame to see them go as they are both such perfectly descriptive words. They both have been replaced by the universal "This sucks!"
