Indeed! You won't be disappointed. Some folks love it from the Title-page; others find it grows on them. Let's just say that....the tempo picks up. But: the journey is the thing. One of the most remarkable books ever written...and, as you probably know....a complete dud when first published...
Arrah, Tom, the feeling's mutual! Who knows, some day perhaps we'll be lucky enough to raise a stein (and/or take a hunt) together. All I can say is: you're walking the walk, kid: working at a gun shop, a factory, and ready to defend the homestead. You really WERE born after your time...
Oh, yes, DH: I'm sure they would.
BW: Both my parents were RoaDIElanders, as well (born 1918 and 1919, in Providence). WWII blew 'em out of Little Rhodie, and they never made it back. Unfortunately--as you well know--most of the city they knew (and all the houses they lived in) were knocked...
Dear Tom,
Congratulations! Looks just_like_you! Here's a compliment: I'm old enough (born 1953) to remember that world. Your recreation looks just like I remember.
We will charitably assume that Bud Light box in the kitchen was used in the move as a packing box  Hope the 'gun is...
"It takes one to know one...."
I had occasion yesterday to wait for about 10 minutes on Boston's Newbury Street (The Hub's high-priced-fashion-shop-trendy-restaurant-see-and-be-seen street; our Provincial Rodeo Drive or Ku-damm). As the tide of trendoids ebbed and flowed, a gent came around the...
Obrigado!
Dear WB,
Thank you so much for your kindness, and please convey my gratitude to your obliging Brazilian colleague, as well! She was so very kind to collect so many different sources.
Sadly, none are quite what we are looking for...we have decided to just transcribe the song from...
Thanks! and Clarifications...
Dear Lads,
Thanks so much to both of you for your goodwill and efforts; they are much appreciated whether they result in anything or not. We are lucky to be fellow-members of such a nice, helpful group of folks.
WB, that sounds like JUST the ticket; CF: thanks...
As you'll see...this is something of a "last resort" kind of request:
I'm a singer, and will be doing a concert in Rio in June. I'd like (as a surprise) to do a 19th Century Brazilian song as an encore, and "the" song seems to be Quem Sabe? by Carlos Antonio Gomes.
Even in the computer...
No idea, Aureliano...but I'm sure someone here does. For what it's worth: I've been having very erratic ability to retrieve new messages for a week or more. Perhaps the site needed to be taken down for a bit for maintenance?
One way or the other: good to have access again. I'm with you: you...
Glad to have you!
Dear PSU,
Welcome! You'll find much of interest here, and a very friendly and knowledgable crowd (these two attributes don't always go hand-in-hand...)
Sounds like you're off to a good start! Looking forward to seeing you around the place,
"Skeet"
WE'RE DOOMED!
If it's like their last effort--a silent version of the "unfilmable" THE CALL OF CTHULHU (which is fantastic)
http://www.cthulhulives.org/cocmovie/
....there will be a few of these trailers or snippets appearing on YouTube...and then the DVD version will appear. Buy it...
Ummm...yeah. The difference being, as WB has pointed out: yours appears very much the real deal, probably middle third of the 19C if I had to take a guess (the only modern bit, as far as I can guess--except for the strip job--being the lid for the compartment; hers is a 1950s "Early American"...
OH YES! My first job was in Sing-Sing (that's the cottage industry of my home town; everyone works there...sooner or later). I ran the PX, essentially, with a crew of 10 murderers under me (don't want to put your thieves in the store). THAT was an eye-opener. Then a stint outside the walls as...
Dear Mark,
Doesn't look bad at all...as far as crust and crumb goes. The shape is almost certainly a result of....the way you shaped it. This is the single largest problem for most people--myself included!--when we start making free-shaped breads. Essentially....what you are making is a balloon...
You're on the right track!
That SHOULD be long enough to achieve a good, strong colony...remember to feed regularly...if your starter is sitting at room temperature, it should be actively working; if it goes dormant....things you DON'T want to have in your bread can move in. If it's not...
