Dear Kitty,
Looks like you've been busy since the last time we traded messages here: good for you! What club did you finally decide to join?
Any plans to head out for bird season, or deer, this year?

Dear Friends,
My dear friend and musical colleague Ralph Richey spent HIS youth (in the 1960s) the way I did: grubbing around for neat stuff when it was still fairly thick on the ground...because no one else was interested. He was attempting to bring order to the resulting hoard (better late...
Another Movie Sighting...and an interesting one...
Hello all,
It has been noted in this thread that the "jughead" hat shows up frequently on the heads of mechanics...and I've just seen another iteration of that. This one, however, is rather interesting: I've always assumed that the point of...
Dear Shawn,
Welcome! From what you say in your intro, I'm sure you'll find plenty here to interest you, to learn from, and you'll have much to contribute as well.
It's a nice place. Glad you found it. Enjoy your stay!

Lieber Mario: Sessions have their own tone, and one must poke around until (if one is lucky) one finds the right group to play with. But I expect you know that!
Trad music is a particularly difficult call: a viable tradition must always change...
Dear DBLIII: both the wife and I are birdhunters, and I assure you: nothing we'd like better than a trip to SoDak and a pop at your birds...and that beverage of choice afterwards! Not likely to happen....but we can dream, can't we?
So glad you found something--no TWO things--you like at VWR...
A personal experience...and a rumination on Baseball
When my mother, God rest her soul! died, I wore nothing but black and white for a year; it was surprising to me how many people asked "oh! where are you going tonight?" having mistaken mourning (complete with black-trimmed handkerchieves)...
Great hats...but really: it's not about the hats...
As Fletch and a few others have commented, this is a film like no other...especially for those of us interested in the quotidian life of the earlier 20C. You'll find plenty of great hats...but fixating on them is a little like examining a tack...
To be clipped and kept in wallet...
For my money, this is one of the most clear-sighted observations and perceptive self-examinations I've read on the FL. Pomp, I think you've got your feet solidly on the ground. And probably a GREAT hat on top of your head.
My sincere admiration,

Dear Hopalong,
Here you go:

I know nothing about the company or its products, but it seems to be what you want. All I can say is....if I were you (and there isn't some particular reason you actually PREFER a repro, say, because you...
Shown here in the US on TCM 2 days ago, I recorded it and settled in to watch it last night. Released in 1938, much of it is shot on location in London and the seacoast. Here is the last summer of peace, in detail—and they clearly knew it; one of the first shots is of a newspaper hoarding...
Dear Maguire,
Great photo! Thanks for the background. I must say, a detail I NEVER would have imagined are the fitted cuffs on the shirt/jacket—I am always amazed at how much warmer buttoning cuffs (or collar) over the pulse points makes me; a good thing when slightly chilly....but not with the...
Please accept my sincere condolences. The memory of a life well spent will be a consolation to you. We are all indebted to him and those of his generation who stood up to the mark in a dark hour.

Possible Work-arounds...
My wife and I have gun-dogs (setters) who, as can be imagined, need to be at their best around very load, very close noises. A very traditional--and in our experience, very successful--way to noise-proof your dogs is to associate (preferably at an early age) loud noises...
Perhaps these folks?
Have no experience of them, and don't ride myself...so no idea, really. But their line looks VERY interesting...and, while they don't offer leather breeches in the catalog, perhaps they'd make them up for you.

Good luck...
there's one in every crowd....
Not in any way to disagree with the Herr Baron's comments, which are true; but: some of us don't wear vintage ties, and DO use tie pins. I've worn them since my mid-teens (in other words, for some 40 years).
If you wear them in the same place on each tie...
Me too...
What he said...and your wife is (rightly) proud of you to boot, which is an additional plus, and one not to be lightly valued.
I don't care what age you are...for my money, you made the right choice.
Congratulations!

What a GREAT find! Hope you were able to buy it "right;" but, one way or the other, it's a wonderful thing and has obviously gone to the right home.
