Post it!
Gotta love custom. A pleasure, as well, to see you making the suit for yourself. I am so glad I am not a cobbler as my wife and daughter would not have shoes. Too busy making everybody else's, you know.
So, I, with the rest of the boys, will look forward to your thread.

Hey, BK. The "Union Label" thread prompted me back to read yours and Marc's last few comments. Regarding details inside the tan, I will check on that this evening (I hope) and post, perhaps even with a picture or two.
That very topic is discussed here. It's a bit later in the thread...might start on page two. Anyway, it helped me with the same question.

A blessing or a curse??
George Bailey was "worth more dead than alive." While his body was visibile in this treasure of a film, he was, in a way, invisible. Not quite the right example...
How many times have we wondered what our dogs were thinking or saying? I know you can relate to this...
voice, yes; hat, no
Like Benny, I wear a hat to the door, then take it off. It's no good to wear it on stage. If I am tuxedo clad, I don't wear a hat at all. My mom has taught piano all of my life and more (I'll be 35 in November), and I have not taken lesson one. Voice is the only...
Yes, Marc, that one is my favorite, I think.
"Here I will put down all my anger, fears..."
Or something like that.
Such fun. We've tried to share that link with several friends around here, locally.
Matt Deckard brought this site to light a couple years ago, to my delight.
You all really should check out "Amy's Diary" on there. We found ourselves with watering eyes and aching bellies caused by the (what had become) silent laughter. You know what I mean. Ah, the best laughter there is...
Okay, so we'll say the charcoal is '39 to '45. What do you say about the tan? I understand no older than 1949, but it couldn't be much newer, could it?
So, my tan suit probably shows a 1949 date? In person, it appears to be 1940, but if the label printing is accurate to your dating, Marc, it must be a "9" and not a "0".
If the Union Label is any indication at all, you, Baron, have it right. Here's what I found to be the case:
I became conufsed by the "80" in the lower right corner, then remembered the copyright in my tan suit (after I looked again). Went back to the charcoal and...hey, there it is...
We thought buttons, too.
I'll take a couple union label pictures later. For now, I can tell you that in the lower right corner of this suit's label is the number 80 (if that means anything) and on my tan suit that we are almost certain is 40's (see the Overdue Cruise Pic in the Steamer...
Better shot of jacket
Uh...."nipple covers," Baron??
Maybe this shot gives a better idea as to age.
As far as custom tailoring goes, yes. There are tags inside that say as much and one can also see where the alterations (very good work) were made. However, it was not tailored for...
I had pinstripes then, they were just more subtle - a pinkish/orange-ish stripe on the tan/beige/khaki field. But, yes. I probably would have worn this one were it in my possession then. More evening feeling than the tan suit. What else is great about this is that it came up at the right...
An antique mall an hour's drive from home was the site of this find. Only flaw I can find is the lack of the "first inside button" at the trouser top. May have been a hook closure. Well, you know what I mean, the part you'd fasten prior to zipping. The outside button does the trick, though...
And, of course, the only thing better than coffee and pie with Cary Grant is coffee brewed by, pie made by, and both enjoyed with...Cabinetman. Well, at least for Amapola.:coffee:
:offtopic: You should see the cherry cabinets I am working on right now. They're wonderful, if I do say so. And I guess I just did. Maybe I'll post some pics when I get home, if I can tie it to the golden era somehow.
Well, back to the show.
Ah, maple cabinets. Good choice. Oh, you were talking about dresses! Just wanted to nose in. Amapola will be pining for more wardrobe when and if she sees this thread.
