It looks like on the photo I posted from Magnoli the long seams aren't pressed open to give a smoother finish. The tutorial you posted shows them being pressed open, which gives the flat transition into the jet. -

The snood Fry is wearing is only for wear at night, to help preserve the shape of the moustache. They're pretty much non-existant now. For drinking men could use a moustache cup: There were also detachable moustache guards: For those who were really concerned there were moustache spoons...- Nick D

Personally I don't care for it on suit. My preference is for a strong shoulder, a structured front, and a defined waist. But I do agree that it would look good on workwear. -

They're metal eyelets. They're widely avaliable in a variety of sizes, and usually come with a small tool for application. Prym is a large manufacturer of these and should be easy to get on-line. You can check local fabric and craft stores, too, to see what's avaliable.
