FS: Handmade tie and bow ties from vintage pattern

I recently made myself some ties and bow ties, and had material left over, so I made up the rest into some ties and bow ties. I used an original pattern from 1941 to make these. Shipping is to be determined by destination, just send me a PM with your location and which tie or ties you'd like...

    The Vintage Tailoring Thread

You could try Duttons (they have shops in York, Ilkley, and Harrogate). Their website isn't grand, but they might be able to help.

    The Moustache

I shaved from the smile lines to the corners of my mouth and trimmed the ends back a bit. I wanted to see how it looked styled this way, and it works pretty well.

Goes very well with the hat and sunglasses, Dan.

The glue is acting more like starch, it's not glued directly to the fabric as with modern fusibles.

    Formal Wear Primer

It's not a hybrid, it's just an earlier style of morning dress. The trim used to be a relatively common sight, but is rarely seen now. Prince Charles still wears it on occassion. Wing collar with a bowtie also was not unheard of.

Double Breasted blazer with very wide lapels

I would wear it often if not for the crest. Not that I don't like the look, but I generally don't wear emblems (the Gloucestershire Regiment buttons on my WWII greatcoat are the exception).

Wow, that's very nice. I could use one with seperate spots for bows and neckties.

    1940 dated 3 Piece American '3 roll 2' suit

The outer pleats are darts. I have a pattern from the same period that has them darted as well. The inner pleats are stitched further down than is usual, never seen that before.

    Monocles.

Interesting, I've never seen one without some sort of ridging.

    Monocles.

Also with a galleried, the galleries are textured, and are extensions of the rim. By close to the eye I mean close like spectacles.

    Monocles.

Yes, a monocle must be ground to be placed close to the eye, and must have a textured rim to help keep it in place. Without these it's a quizzing glass. Eustace Tilley uses a quizzing glass.

    I'd wear it.

Salieri, I've had a thought about the buttonhole on the waistcoat pocket. It may be for a pince-nez or monocle cord with a button on the end. Not everyone wore them looped around their necks, and a double-breasted waistcoat doesn't have a convenient button to attach it to. The chances of...
