Consider the source...
Robin Givhan, who wrote the article, is no idiot. However if she tries hard she may work her way up to it.
Consider this article of hers: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/07/21/AR2005072102347.html
You're in good company...
...as you can see many of the good folks here don't dress vintage every day, or some even at all. I think what brings us together is a vaguely defined sensibility that things of the past have a value that hasn't passed.
We have a few antiques around the house, but...
I'm glad someone is doing it...
...because I'm not. Could do it, have done it, not doing it again. I'm done with that stuff. Jeeves, bring me another G&T -- I'm getting woozy.:p
Blade cost?
I paid $9, including shipping, for 100 blades. Even at Wallyworld the blades are only $1.50 for 10.
I have a super heavy beard and I get three to four shaves each. Long run a "cut throat" razor may be cheaper, but it's more trouble and time.
It does matter...
Good table manners matter. Colleges have taken to teaching prospective graduates proper manners at the table before they humiliate themselves during a lunch interview. We often decry the decline in proper dressing as it expresses respect for others. It's no less important...
Pretty Regular
Typically, my favorite watch -- an Omega Speedmaster, my wedding band, and my college class ring. I've a few sets of cufflinks, but usually don't wear cufflink shirts. Sometimes I like to wear another watch. My other favorite is a wind-up of automatic day, date, month, moon...
One perspective
There are several shaving forums out there and the watchword is "YMMV." My own experience is: if you have a light to moderate beard, a multi-bladed cartridge razor does a pretty good job. If you are like me, with a very stiff and heavy beard, a double edge safety razor is a...
True Story...
Over 20 years ago I went to funeral in Lancaster California. I was in the Air Force doing my four years at the time. I didn't want to wear blues, so I wore a somber grey suit.
When I got to the funeral I was by far the most conservatively dressed. The few suits there were...
Hmmm...
Interesting. I work with guys who wear flight suits and BDUs. These are manly men who are amazingly tolerant of my jackets, fedoras, bow ties, suspenders, etc. Never a question and often many positive comments.
As a Blazer most often
I have a blue seersucker suit, and never had the pants hemmed. I just wear the jacket. I usually wear it with navy slacks, a black belt and black cap toes. Sometimes I wear it with light grey slacks. I also have a tan seersucker (jacket only) that I wear with tan...
Well I'm out....
Recently, I took out my pipe for the first time in many a year and had a smoke in my truck. A week later my sweet daughter got in for a ride and said "your truck smells funny. Hey, what's this thing...?" Busted. I can't very well tell her smoking is wrong and then smoke...
Howdedoo
Hi everyone.
It’s great to know that here a so many great folks out there who share a love for the classics.
I’m a 48 year old 11th generation Virginian. I live in Yorktown with my wife and 8 year old daughter. I’m an Army brat and grew up all over. I’ve always had a...
My $.02..
I'm of the view that technology killed the hat, most especially cars and air conditioning. As the 20th century wore on, people began to spend more and more time in doors, in cars, etc. Increasingly hats became an unnecessary burden.
