Dont forget the odd balls like myself - still relatively young, but due to size and proportions not within the 'norm' in need of a good tailor or doomed to wear "good enough" from the MTM events and trunk shows at RL and others. This requires some budgeting and the usual dance for approval from...
Fortunately, I find myself sending out our intenet and e-mail policy memo less often these days. We did however, just block all thrid party e-mail. This is actually more a regulatory than a business decision since we cannot monitor the correspondece that goes to and from thrid party e-mail...
My personal and biased opinion...
All I can say is thank goodness for the bespoke (and MTM) tailors out there in the world. It has always been difficult for me to find clothing, not only due to my size, but due to my build. Different tailors adhere to different schools of thought on how to...
Don't know where I heard this, it may have been in grammar school, but it seems that Listerine was orginally developped as a treatment for head lice?
I used to wash my hair at least once per day, twice on squash and gym days. However, Sarah convinced me to wash on a schedule, just Monday...
I too have a particular affinity for Bogner. Besides being the staple for the NYC to Stratton crowd when I was growing up, Bogner was one of the very few who carried nice ski clothing in my size - a rare find for me even back in the day... I used to love wandering around the store in NYC as a kid.
My cousins have jackets not unlike the one in the photo - theirs are boiled wool loden jackets with leather trim and collars. There are a few similar jackets sold in Austria, Germany and our little bit of Italy in wool and other fabrics.
Not very big, and primarily in Australia, I have found some interesting items on Oztion. There were several prints I purchased as the only bidder. The seller told me that he was listing some of his items on Oztion for two reasons - first, to support his "local" auction site; and second...
For using wooden skis get to know about which waxes are appropriate for various conditions. Without the shaping and edges of a modern ski, much of your control will come from using the right wax. You will also have to adjust a bit to the feel of the wood skis and the necessity (at least in my...
Can't remember the date either, but at the time, Dave Kingman was playing for the Mets and knocking 'em out of the park. Neighborhood kids used to wait outside Shea during games to retrieve the balls... He wasn;t with the Met's (or any team) for very long so it had to be before '77.
I read a combination of the paper in the morning and the on-line version of the NYT at lunch - unfortunately lunch is usually at my desk. I used to read the paper cover to cover and do the crossword puzzle, but I feel much more pressured for time these days.
My only gripe about the newspaper...
Kimberly - The cocktail onion is also soaked in brine, imparts a bit of saltiness, but a bit different than an olive. BTW, the onions are about the same size as an olive.

Looks like Art is looking at a 50 gram felt hat body for summer. I will happily volunteer as a guinea pig if he is happy with the sample he receives. :D
Quite right Fletch. I have very much enjoyed "vodkatinis" and less dry martinis (depending on the vermouth). My comment was really just regarding the naming convention. There is enough room for interpretation in the "standard" gin martini as it is, so I have to wonder why we don't find names...
My preference is a waiscoat if I need the extra warmth / just feel like it or, less often, a cashmere vest. I limit my sweaters to a few that I really love and would hate to stretch them out at the wrists by pulling them over french cuffs.
Rinsing the olives in dry vermouth is one solution. For those who choose no vegetables or fruits in their martini, rinse / coat the inside of the glass by swirling the dry vermouth and then pour out the excess before adding the gin. A chilled glass is also quite important. It is good to keep...
dr greg - What size was the hat? Do you have the name and contact info for the shop? I relly would be curious to learn more about the hat - especially if it is from the thirties and not a later 70s hat.
Devils Advocate?
Don't mean to de-rail the discussion - perhaps I will start with a suggestion for the bartenders out there in the world. I do wish they would find new names for their cocktails and not just add -tini at the end.
Growing up around quite a few gentlemen (if one can call...
