The title of this thread is chillingly like the subject line of the memo I dread getting from my boss someday.
Me too. I check email at home sometimes, but otherwise have other things to do when I'm off work (being a Mom, being a friend, sewing, cooking, cleaning, dancing, practicing, etc). Surfing the web is something I'm allowed to do on the job, as long as I get all my work done too. Certain sites are blocked, but they are sites I don't care about anyway. I'm not sure if posting on this forum right now could get me in trouble?

Obviously many of us can relate. I spend 10 hours a day in front of the computer, taking phone calls, and honestly, sometimes one just needs a mental break(that will be my defense when I am eventually questioned on this:eek: )before i log unto my work related programs I open 2 windows, one for the FL and One for surfing. I know surfing is ok as long as i can do it and work at the same time. Not sure that posting on the Fl will fall into the same category...My multi-tasking skills have become very sophisticated:D

Fortunately, I find myself sending out our intenet and e-mail policy memo less often these days. We did however, just block all thrid party e-mail. This is actually more a regulatory than a business decision since we cannot monitor the correspondece that goes to and from thrid party e-mail services.

Some personal correspondence using our e-mail systems, and internet usage at lunch hour / during down time is ok in moderation but, more and more sites are being blocked. We, and our clients, do make use of our own Internet portals, and do use the internet for reseach and to connect to other financial institutions so it is unlikely we will go so far as to remove access. But it has certainly been discussed.

Today I am working a half day from home while the roofing contractors, developer and management comapny all do their thing...

Fortunately for me, I'm the one who'd be monitoring it. Even more fortunately, my boss is very, very unlikely to be the type to write such a policy.

Oops! I answered the poll before reading the actual question.

I am on the computer/online almost all day between work and home/personal stuff. But, I still am online a lot when I am home. Shopping, looking, reading, sometimes catching up on television shows.

I'm a stay-at-home mom, so the 'net is the only place where I can talk to fellow grown-ups, (or not-so grown-ups :D) in my dirty jammies while doing laundry and planning dinner.

I need a life
