Alan, as you already know and appreciate, that is a beautiful Knox and I really like that Schoble as well. You're off the deep end, but we all love seeing them here!
Historyteach - you did well on that wider brim and taller crown!
Monbla, if you go to these type of events with any regularity, it would be interesting if you took along a digital camera and posted pics here. Sounds like a fun event.
At the risk of provoking the Bartender and losing drinking privileges, I think we all need at least one hat we wear with the upbrim! A little variety is a fine thing.
Johnny J, what a nice find! The hat seems to be in terrific shape! Depending on how much it cost to acquire, I would consider sending it to be professionally cleaned if a good solid brushing isn't doing the trick. Others here do their own naptha bath, but I'd be hesitant on such a quality old...
Buler, that Playboy appears to be, in ebay parlance, "minty fresh":D I envy your finds very much!
Alan, I like an upbrim on OR style hats. I think it's cool...
Ok, so I'm confused again, unless you are in disagreement with JtL's statement: "I tend not to refer to the sweat as being "reeded" where either reed -tape or reed cloth are used. I only use the term to describe a treatment that involves a physical reed." He was referring to the Week-Ender as...
Jimmy, thanks for reposting that link, as well as the illustrative pictures. It took me a while going over them to get what you were saying. Now that you've pointed out the difference, I find it really interesting that the Week-Ender has reed tape or cloth but no reed! I would have never...
The Mrs. is also CFO of Chinaski, Inc. There's no hiding funds...As bad as that sounds I'm sure we are a healthier company as a result!
Good luck with the White's and again, please post here when they come in.
Univibe, contrats on pulling the trigger. I would love a pair and can't really sell the Mrs. on my "need" to have a pair!! Did you consider Wesco boots? Just wondering.
I look forward to seeing your photos, and Whacky - your photos as well.
Spend enough time here, and low crowns with stingy brims will start to look a bit "anemic." (With no disrespect intended to Daizawaguy, GWD, and other stingy-wearin' brethren!) You will start to get used to taller crowns and wider brims as you wear them.
From your description, I would tell you that most here would say it is not an Open Road if the words Open Road are not printed on either the liner or the sweatband.
Did you check under the sweatband? Sometimes you'll see a reorder tag, and this might actually say "Open Road" on it...
