+3 on the Campdraft. Your granddad's hat has very little taper (very straight sides as opposed to getting narrower towards the crown) and that matches the Campdraft very well. I believe you can buy it "open crowned" as well and shape it yourself. It would be a good addition to your hat... -

Yeah, I like the sound of this idea, and I might have a chance to use it on a 7 3/8 I'm expecting in the next week - I'll have to wait and see how it fits on my 7 1/4 head. -

Looking for a particular Fedora
Blackmantis, I second (or third or fourth or whatever) keeping an eye peeled on Ebay. Here's a nice coffee brown lid made by Champ I picked up quite inexpensively. You could maybe start with an Akubra Stylemaster to have a hat now while you keep looking on Ebay. -
