My mother had a graduated set of the same bowls when we weer growing up that I vividly remember. Hers were brown and I think they are at my brothers house now.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think melamine and melmac can be used interchangeably. I've also heard them called Bontoonware...
The bowl is made from melmac, like those plastic 50s dishes. I used to have a big collection of melmac, but have since given most of it away because I have too many dishes in my house. I've heard of those particular bowls referred to as barfware because the colors resemble... you know. lol
Lady Mollyanna Pussypants, a.k.a. Molly, Momo or Chairman Meow:
Getrude Petunia McGullicudy, a.k.a Gertie, Gatlin Gert, Gert the Squirt or Tuna (short for Petunia):
Gertie's embarrased of her name:
My ears ring as well, it affects my hearing when there is a lot of background noise. But in normal situations, my hearing is still good.
I've found that taking tylenol, advil, aspirin, or any other kind of pain killer increases the volume of the ringing substantially. If you do take any...
Good call Mary, I totally forgot about catalin. I have a white mesh purse with a catalin kisslock closure and catalin chain handles at home, I think I need to pull it out and clean it off to use this summer!
A lot of items that we refer to as bakelite are actually catalin, especially the...
I don't think they're lucite. If they were lucite, they probably would be a clear, transparent colorless color. Correct me if I'm wrong, but lucite from that time was always colorless. That's much more of a celluloid color to me, similar to the color of celluloid hair combs.
If I could...
My guess just looking at the pictures is that they are probably celluloid. A lot of 30s sets had celluloid handles. Celluloid also has a thin brittle feel to it. Be careful if they are celluloid, because they will break easily if they are. And keep then away from heat, celluloid melts easily...
Tons of bakelite is transparent. They usually refer to it as cherry juice, apple juice, whatever fruit juice color it resembles. The apple juice bakelite items were clear transparent, but as they age they turn an apple juice color similar to your drawer pulls. Your pulls are probably bakelite...
I'd say mid-30s, maybe even early 30s. These table sets always strike me as more 30s than 40s-era. Is the table-top porcelain? My mother has a very similar set.
I'm not sure, but I think lemon balm may grow like mint does. You may want to keep it in a planter so it doesn't take over your garden like mint would. Does anyone know?
I bet it is delicious used in a marinade for fish or veggies.
Lemon balm makes a nice tea. Or you can add it to tea that is already brewed for a nice lemon flavor. I did a quick search to see what else is can used for and found this:
Harvest and Use: Lemon balm has many uses. As a cosmetic, it makes a good skin cleanser. Steamy facials are recommended...
Plenty of folks on this board can sing the praises on Howard's Restore A Finish. After reading the recommendations of people on this board, I bought some myself and can't speak highly enough about it. My waterfall set was a little scratched and dinged up and had lost it's luster. I used...
A lot of 30s sets have those decals on them. My waterfall bedroom set has urns and swags on it that look hand-painted, but upon closer inspection they are decals. It doesn't bother me too much.
A friend has a waterfall dining room set that looks like it has the same decal inlays that yours...
At first glance, I thought the goat carvings on top looked like German black forest carvings. But then the cabinet almost looks like old Chinese export.
I don't know why, but after looking at it again, I get a strong Chinese vibe from it. I'm far from an expert on this though, I'm just going...
For the gals who own the cute UK Clarks shoes - Do the British Clarks run large in size like the US Clarks do? I usually wear a size 9, but usually have to get an 8.5 when I buy Clarks here in the U.S. Thanks!
