Hopefully the ever-more-common use of DNA testing will help speed up the process between the sentencing and execution of the conclusively guilty, and that there will soon be no more long-term tenants of Death Row. Executions should be carried out by professionals, not doctors.
Toland was a genius. Two others of the period that always seemed to stand out were John Alton, especially those great cheapie crime pics he did with Anthony Mann (fantastic stuff), and James Wong Howe who could even make a light comedy like MR. BLANDINGS BUILDS HIS DREAM HOUSE visually stunning.
Howdy Folks,
I think the 1970's were a decade so ripe with quality film-making that perhaps only the the 1940's can favorably compare.
My current ten favorties of the period are:
(in no particular order)
PAPER MOON
THE LAST DETAIL
NIGHT MOVES
FAT CITY
AGUIRRE, WRATH OF GOD
THE MAN WHO...
Whoa. Vladimir, those boots are beautiful. How long have you owned yours and how would you rate the quality of construction/materials?
I'm awaiting a pair of W.C. Russell moc-toed motorcycle boots. Any of you folks own Russell's out there? This will be my first pair.
Ed Anderson wrote the book. Excellent. His other novel, he was mainly a newspaperman, HUNGRY MEN is bit dated by it's heavy pro-Labor/Communist leanings and Steinbeck-worshipping, but it's a realistic and gritty glimpse into the 30's also worth reading if you can find it.

I'm not surprised. I believe all of their leather jackets are still made in Englnad and should say so on the tag next to the contract label. I have clothing made by the Japanese firms Toyo Enterprises (who own Sugar Cane, Style Eyes, Buzz Rickson's), Evisu, and Pherrow's which are labeled as...
No matter how you slice it, it's still baloney.
The tone of the words above closely resemble those of other upset posters I've read on various forums. Some posters declare a favorite repro-maker and get quite upset when anyone says something less than flattering about said maker. I've seen...
I don't agree with the films mentioned as being Noir. LAURA is an excellent but fairly standard detective story/mystery. LEAVE HER TO HEAVEN is basically a plodding love story courtroom/melodrama with a bit of OF MICE AND MEN thrown in for good measure. PICK UP ON SOUTH STREET arguably skirts...

I too favor SCARLET STREET over THE WOMAN IN THE WINDOW. But as I consider it inferior to the French original I didn't include it for the sake of consolidating words.
