Thursday boot Vangaurd heel height

I really like the looks of the Indigo Vangaurd but the heel looks like it’s 1 1/2”. Would it be possible to put a lower heel on it or would that be cost prohibitive. I know the Grant Stone heel looks lower but it’s more pricey and made in China.

I don't think Thursday will do that for you, their production model isn't really set up for customization.
The last time I had heel stacks replaced, the cost was somewhere near $50 (East coast pricing)

Although Grant Stone is made in China, the production quality and leathers are superior to Thursday.
I have 5 or 6 Grant Stone and don't hesitate to recommend them to anyone.

I'd definitely steer clear of Thursday boots unless you're completely new to the boot game and want to dip your toes. Even then buying a used pair from a better brand makes more sense.

I’m new to the dress boots game. Mostly I have like Red Wings,Danner and Thorogood work boots. And 1 nice old pair of Chippewas I got from LL Bean forever ago in a nice mahogany leather. I put an offer in on Ebay for a pair of Grant Stones.

Thursday is a downgrade to most of those.

I'm curious about these Thursdays as they claim to be made in USA and have a higher price point than the made in Mexico, which I've tried and was completely let down. Despite so many reviews claiming they are worth more than their price and on par with more expensive boots, I found they were worth exactly their price.

You can get new Grant Stones new for little more than those Thursdays and IMO it's a no brainer, I would go for GS. Made in China is meaningless, I have two pairs of Grant Stones and they are both superb. I would only hesitate if you weren't from USA, as import taxes kill GS's value in Europe IMO.

Wild to me how Grant Stones have blown up in popularity.

In 2016 I bought a pair of their crimson plain toe shoe ($325) because I wanted something that looked like Alden’s shoe without the huge price tag.

Did some searching and found Grant Stone and ordered a pair. There was a small defect and I reached out and they, without hesitation replaced it. This was when they were just beginning and still dialing in their manufacturing in China. They only had the plain toe and maybe they introduced the diesel boot a few months later. Now they got a bunch of current styles for men and women. Wild. They are really well made for made in china and I thought a lot of people into that heritage look wouldn’t even give these guys a look because of it. As well as the fact that some purists would rather pay more for the original Aldens than less for something built and looks just as similar with great quality that can be felt.

Guess I was wrong. Interesting to see that in 8 years the crimson shoe is at just at $385.

I still have them. I just don’t wear them as much as my boots and I need to get the leather outsole added with a topper or something to keep the sidewalk from eating the outsole. But if I need a shoe for an occasion that requires it that’s the shoe I’ll wear.

Needless to say. I’ve seen Thursday boots in real life and they look like cheap boots. The grant stones are of higher quality.

Edit: I just looked at the indigo vanguards and the heel height doesn’t look that bad and the leather seems good. You can always get the heels replaced at a cobbler, but it might affect the balance.

I would have to agree. I bought a pair of their boots a few years ago and found them completely underwhelming. I think I wore them once and then lost them in my closet, haven’t even thought about them until this thread popped up.
