Paul, Was it the look or the color of the Stylemaster that you didn't like? If it's just the color then I suggest you order one in Moonstone from either Everything Australian or Hats Direct. The Sydney from David Morgan is in charcoal, which is almost black or in a brown color. Don't let the...
Not me! I wore a fine vintage Stetson to Florida in Oct of 09. It stayed on the shelf until we came back a week later. Too hot for me. Now I'm not overly happy about snowstorms that leave you stranded (or an inch of the white stuff piled on your brim), but at least I get to wear something...
BigDog,
Personally I can live with either one, but my preference is for an opem crown. That way I can shape it how I want and half the fun for me at least is how you seem to continually "tweak" it. As long as you don't put too tight an edge on anything, you can keep changing it as you see...
I guess if I had looked I would have seen. Talk about embarrassed! :o LOL
Well hollowpond, sorry bout that, but the brim still looks great! And now I'll shamefully slink back to troll mode.
Hey Dan,
Love the Hollywood style brim you have on that VS. Just a subtle hint and not an overexaggerated look. Wish I could get that look, but unfortunately so far my attempts have been pitiful.
:o:rolleyes:
The Village Hat Shop has the Jaxon Rude Boy model fairly cheap. I've dealt with them several times and have never had a problem. The only bad thing is it's like a Ford model T... any color as long as it's black! Otherwise just troll ebay until something catches your fancy.
- Good luck!
I always wear fedora's with jeans although through wearing fedora's I seldom wear tshirts anymore. Like most of those here it goes jeans and collared shirts. Ebay isn't the deal it once was for hats, but you can still find a deal at times. Biggest thing about going to a hat shop (besides...
I guess it comes down to whether or not the hood will be used. If it's just cold out I would wear the fedora. If it's a cold and blustery day then I'd wear something that can be worn with the hood up. But if it's cold and blustery I try to stay indoors with my feet up!
:p:p
Originally I thought that ebay may be best, but then I had this vision of someone taking the old Borsalino or a vintage Open Road to "make a hat like Johnny Depp wears." and I broke out in a cold sweat. So I'd post them here and if you don't get any takers... the bay is waiting.
You sir are a stronger man than I am. In my not-so-short time with the Traveling Hat, even if I didn't wear it, it was nice to pull it out of the box and admire it (some would say fondle, but I'll stick with admire). So for you to get it sent out that quick is admirable. I had imagined it...
Seeing your hat it reminds me of two things 1) Even these modern hats are remarkable when it comes to taking the weather and then snapping back into shape and 2) crap, winter's coming.
:p
In the cooler months, I wear a fedora of some kind any time I'm heading out the door. In the summer I only have one hat and it's an Akubra Capricorn. Probably wear it about 80-90% in those hot months.
When I first saw this I was thinking of my red liner on my Akubra Sydney from DM, but after seeing your entries, I realize I'm definitely not in this catagory! By the way, that blue grey on top... is it just me or does that remind anyone else of those colorful diapers that they used to have...
I'd say if you're not sure if you'll even like wearing a hat, then I wouldn't spend a lot of money on it. Although if you get an Akubra or Stetson you could make your money back selling it. Instead I'd find a hat on ebay (or maybe on sale at the Village Hat Shop) in a style you like and try it...
I've gotta agree with monbla256 on this one. If you're looking for a good quality hat at a
reasonable price, an Akubra is a good place to start. I have the Squatter (with 3 " brim cut back by half an inch), a Sydney (a nice lightweight hat) and a Fed IV thats seen a few rain/snow storms in...
Although I have a few more hats than your grandfather did, I like the simplicity of his hats. A nice one for when you're dressed up and a beater for everything else. Sorta makes me wish I could do that. On second thought...
;)
Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier on this, I must've let the thread slip by. Easy to do with so many different threads coming fast and furious.
But as far as my impression, the hat was really soft when I bought it. The crown was lower than I usually wear and and that makes...
