Neither.
Buy Vintage.
They're higher quality than both brands.
I'm sure Pea Coat will chime in soon.
I listened to him and bought a vintage one from the 60's for about $50.
It's the highest quality coat I own.
Lenny
Yeah, I agree Seb.
On the Insurrection page, they advise to size down for the Enfield as it runs one size large.
That was my finding too, which is why I bought a 38 to replace this one.
Lenny
Size 40, made in the USA.
It's about 2 years old.
I did all the hard work and broke it in nicely for you.
Great grain showing everywhere, soft and supple (as soft and supple
as a substantial piece of leather like this can be)
Other than some very minor scuffs here and there, it's perfect.
$510...
Again, I merely started the thread so I could learn about selvedge denim.
It's kind of offensive that more than one of you have already accused me of trolling in a round about way.
And I haven't lost interest, just haven't been posting due to comments like the above.
I honestly didn't understand...
My original intention of the post was to learn what makes selvedge denim jeans better than the garden variety denim jeans, not to troll.
So far, nothing in this thread leads me to believe that selvedge denim is better than just plain old denim or that heavy is better than thin.
For me, fit is...
Finally, the good Dr says what I've been thinking all along.
I just didn't want to say it for fear of getting my head bit off!
At best, selvedge keeps the ends of the fabric from fraying.
But who cares any way, the edges never show.
The real conversation is heavy wt vs light fabric wt denim...
Guys, I'm not saying there's no difference.
I just want to know what the differences are.
I bought an Aero FQHH jacket instead of mall garbage so I do appreciate quality and the greater cost associated with it.
How much should I expect to pay for entry level good quality selvedge jeans?
Lenny
I'd be interested in trying a pair of selvedge jeans just to see what they're about first hand.
Is it possible to get a quality pair for under $50?
Where?
Lenny
I've basically worn Levis 505's or Lee straight cut jeans my whole life.
I don't think I've ever spent more than $35 for a pair.
They fit great, look great, and last for years.
I just don't get spending hundreds of dollars for a pair of jeans.
And I still don't get what makes "selvedge" denim...
Well, you've all already said what I would've said anyway.
The thing I just can't get over is the price of that Burburry jacket.
There must be a lot of people with more money than common sense.
Sheesh!
Lenny
I hear ya Fanch.
And I do agree with you.
It's pretty darn near perfect fit wise.
I could just use another inch in the length and arms though.
I'd also love a smooth lining in the sleeves to make it easier to put on and off.
Sorry, I had a moment of insanity.
I'm gonna take your advice and keep...
