HA! When I tried out for Project Runway years ago I brought some of my vintage designs and he told me they were "very well made but too costumey". I wonder what he thinks of this resurgence of vintage style now...
Thanks! I keep thinking about different fabrics to use. Mmm... maybe like a green charmeuse would be pretty :)
kamikat, she did have some lovely patterns! Did you win any of them? I was really surprised I got this one. :)
Yay! Love that pattern ;)
I agree- 1935 is a dreamy year for McCall patterns!
I just got this one. I'm really hoping it has all the pieces! Luckily it was inexpensive so if it doesn't it won't be a terrible loss. I really love the back inset gores.
I would much rather someone like me for who I am than for what I'm wearing ;)
But really, I think style is really great- and whether you put a label on it or not, I really don't think that vintage style needs to be limited to just authentic vintage clothing. It's really the aesthetic, in my...
This is exactly the mindset I've had in the last few years as well. Sometimes I think of things I sold that were really neat vintage pieces that no longer fit but I've never really missed any of it. I'm glad I have photos of me wearing them at the time, and that's good enough for me :)...
I should be more like this. I'm a bit introverted already- and hearing vintage folks over the years talk down about other ways of dressing made me a bit self conscious, I guess. [huh] But I can't expect everyone's going to be like that.
This is pretty much what it's like by me, too :) I love encouraging folks in learning sewing. Funnily enough, I find most kindred spirits in terms of vintage at the local quilt shop in town where vintage 30s quilting is rather popular. People here do like vintage items but don't really dress...
You know, I honestly don't remember the sizing. I think they might have run a little small. I like them- they don't look totally vintage but are good for retro looks- I found them great for work because they had a vintage vibe but still looked modern.
I have bought from them before and...
Hey, I had those! I wore them at my last job until they were ragged. Lol! They were great for RTW high waist pants. If I remember correctly they did have a bit of stretch in them which was my only complaint. I've loved almost everything I bought from Newport News and they have great sales...
No, not a stupid question at all! I am still getting used to mine so haven't figured it out yet :) But I do know that one of my hot rollers fell out before they were cool and it still was very curly :)
I'm not sure, I was wondering the same thing. I know people repro them, but it seems like a lot of money to spend even for that... but if someone did buy it to repro I'd love a copy! hehe.
Maybe just collectors. People go crazy on apron patterns, so maybe they go crazy on hats, too.
I was...
I don't know! I did a pincurl set and waited until they were completely dry. With hot rollers I didn't have them in any longer than maybe 30 minutes- just until they were cool. I honestly at this point didn't notice too great a difference in wet set vs hot roller set- they both stayed in...
Oooh! Congrats!
I just got my hair permed, too. I read through this thread a lot before deciding- so all your questions and the advice offered helped me, too.
My hair is very fine but I have a LOT of hair. It didn't like to hold a curl at all- it fell out nearly in entirety by the end of a...
Thanks so much for the comments on my playsuit, gals!
Drappa, I wish I had my own label, too (maybe someday, God willing).
Cherry Lips- it's blue and pink and white and green. There's pics in color on my blog :)
Annichen- I wish it was my house! It's classic star Leo Carrillo's house. They...
Thanks, Miss Sofia :D
I just finished this playsuit and I think it's now one of my very favorite things in my closet. Even though I made it, I guess it could be considered one of my best. :)
Hmm... really hard to tell from the picture, but I'd guess earlier part of the 20th century- probably pre 1912. The lace looks like it could have been a later addition possibly. Very pretty! I adore that era.
